2027 Kia Sorento PHEV Gets New US Pricing
Kia America has announced pricing for the 2027 Kia Sorento plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in the United States. The new model year brings a simplified lineup, with the manufacturer discontinuing the EX trim and retaining only the fully equipped X-Line SX-Prestige all-wheel-drive variant.
The 2027 Sorento PHEV starts at $53,890 before destination and handling charges. With the $1,495 destination fee included, the starting price comes to $55,385. The pricing and equipment updates were announced by Kia America on October 19, 2026. <Cite refs={["turn916604search0","turn916604search1"]}/>
The change means buyers can no longer select the previous entry-level EX configuration when purchasing the Sorento PHEV for the 2027 model year. Instead, the plug-in hybrid is offered in a single, premium specification that combines all-wheel drive with a range of comfort, convenience and driver-assistance features.
EX Trim Discontinued for 2027
The most significant change to the 2027 Kia Sorento PHEV range is the removal of the EX trim. In the previous model year, the EX provided a lower-priced entry point into the plug-in hybrid range.
With that version discontinued, the X-Line SX-Prestige AWD becomes the only available configuration. This raises the effective entry price of the PHEV range compared with the previous entry-level model.
According to Cars.com, the 2026 Sorento PHEV EX had a starting price of $49,785, excluding destination charges. The new 2027 entry price, including destination, is $55,385. Buyers should note that these figures use different pricing bases, so the destination fee must be considered when comparing the total costs. <Cite refs={["turn916604search1","turn916604search2"]}/>
The remaining top-spec trim has also received a modest price adjustment compared with its previous-year counterpart. The revised lineup reflects Kia's decision to focus its plug-in hybrid offering on a single, more comprehensively equipped version.
Head-Up Display Now Standard
One of the key equipment updates for the 2027 Sorento PHEV is the addition of a standard head-up display. The system projects selected driving information into the driver's forward field of view, helping the driver check relevant information without looking down at the instrument cluster as often.
The head-up display joins a broad list of features available in the X-Line SX-Prestige AWD. The premium specification includes a digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, smartphone connectivity, wireless phone charging and a Bose audio system.
Other convenience and comfort equipment includes heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, leather seating surfaces and a panoramic sunroof. The SUV also offers a 360-degree camera system and a range of driver-assistance technologies, depending on the equipment specification announced for the US market.
The X-Line SX-Prestige features distinctive exterior detailing, including dark Gun Metal accents, black high-gloss trim and black 19-inch wheels. Inside, the 2027 model receives X-Line embossing on the front seatbacks and machined wood inlays on the instrument panel and doors. <Cite refs={["turn916604search0","turn916604search1"]}/>
Exterior Colour and Charging Equipment Updates
Kia has also made changes to the exterior colour selection for the 2027 model year. Pale Gray replaces Steel Gray in the Sorento PHEV colour range. The model retains its X-Line styling details, which distinguish it from other versions of the Sorento lineup.
The plug-in hybrid also comes with a combined Level 1 and Level 2 charging cable as standard equipment in the US market. This provides owners with charging flexibility, depending on the electrical supply available at home or another suitable charging location.
A plug-in hybrid vehicle combines a combustion engine with an electric motor and a rechargeable battery. Unlike a conventional hybrid, a PHEV can be connected to an external power source to recharge its battery and drive on electric power for a limited distance. The actual electric driving range and fuel economy depend on factors such as driving conditions, temperature, charging habits and vehicle use.
Powertrain and Driving Technology
The 2027 Sorento PHEV continues to use a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a rechargeable battery. A six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are part of the US-market configuration.
Kia has positioned the Sorento PHEV as a family-oriented SUV offering a combination of electric driving capability and petrol-powered flexibility. Owners who regularly recharge the battery may be able to complete some shorter journeys using electric power, although the distance achieved will vary with driving conditions.
The vehicle also includes driver-assistance technologies designed to support the driver during everyday travel. Depending on the system, these may assist with maintaining a set speed, following traffic, monitoring surrounding vehicles and helping with parking manoeuvres. Such systems do not replace attentive driving, and drivers remain responsible for controlling the vehicle.
Buyers should check the manufacturer's current specifications for the confirmed electric range, fuel-economy figures and feature availability before making a purchase decision. Official EPA ratings and final specifications should be used when available rather than relying on estimates from earlier model years.
What the New Pricing Means for Buyers
The 2027 Kia Sorento PHEV's revised lineup makes the purchase decision more straightforward because there is only one trim to choose from. However, discontinuing the EX means buyers looking for a lower-priced plug-in hybrid Sorento no longer have that option in the 2027 US range.
The remaining X-Line SX-Prestige includes more standard equipment, including the head-up display, but the higher entry price may affect buyers working within a specific budget. Customers should consider the vehicle's purchase price alongside charging access, insurance, maintenance costs and their typical driving distances.
The announced prices apply to the United States and should not be treated as Indian prices. Availability, specifications, taxes and equipment can differ across markets. Kia has not established through this US pricing announcement that the 2027 Sorento PHEV will be sold in India in the same configuration.
Overall, the 2027 Kia Sorento PHEV receives a more streamlined lineup, additional standard technology and revised styling details. The EX trim's removal is the main change affecting affordability, while the standard head-up display and premium equipment strengthen the specification of the sole remaining X-Line SX-Prestige AWD variant.
