Three senior leaders of the banned CPI Maoist organisation surrendered before West Bengal Police in Bankura district on September 23 under the state government’s surrender cum rehabilitation policy. The surrendered leaders were identified as Jaba Mahato, Nayantara Sahu and Ramprasad Mandi. Police said the trio handed over an AK 47 rifle, two INSAS rifles, magazines and ammunition. They were reportedly active for several years across parts of West Bengal and Jharkhand. Police said more than 75 criminal cases are linked to the three leaders. Criminal proceedings will continue despite their surrender, officials said.
Assistant Teachers Working as Acting Headmasters Entitled to Headmaster Salary, Allahabad High Court

The Allahabad High Court has ruled that assistant teachers who worked as acting headmasters for prolonged periods are entitled to receive the salary applicable to the headmaster post from the date they assumed charge. The Lucknow Bench also removed the earlier restriction that limited salary arrears to three years before the filing of a writ petition. The ruling was delivered by Justice Pankaj Bhatia while disposing of a batch of petitions involving 1,030 petitioners. The court held that salary earned for services actually rendered as an acting headmaster is a valuable right.

Odisha remains on alert as the India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of the state on September 23 and 24. The State Transport Authority has placed Regional Transport Offices on high alert and directed officials to regulate, divert or suspend vehicle movement on roads affected by flooding, waterlogging, landslides or poor visibility. Night travel on vulnerable routes will receive special attention. Control rooms, increased patrolling, cranes and recovery vehicles have been arranged at vulnerable locations. Authorities have advised motorists and transport operators to avoid unnecessary travel through unsafe routes during the warning period.
