Bentley has unveiled the Torcal, marking an important step in the British luxury carmaker’s transition towards electric mobility. The Torcal is the company’s first fully electric production vehicle and becomes the fourth model line in Bentley’s current range, joining the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga.
The new luxury electric SUV has been designed and engineered at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe, United Kingdom. The Torcal is positioned below the Bentayga in the company’s SUV portfolio and is expected to arrive in India during the second half of 2027. Bentley has confirmed that the Torcal will remain an electric-only model and will not be offered with petrol or hybrid powertrains.
The Torcal name is inspired by El Torcal de Antequera, a distinctive limestone landscape in southern Spain. The naming follows Bentley’s established practice of using names associated with natural landscapes. The new model also introduces Bentley’s updated design language while retaining several familiar styling elements associated with the luxury brand.
The Torcal has a lower and shorter profile compared with the standard-wheelbase Bentayga. Its design combines a long bonnet, short overhangs and a sloping roofline to create a sportier SUV appearance. At the front, the electric SUV features an illuminated diamond-pattern grille with 76 hand-applied LED diamonds, according to Bentley. The lighting design and grille treatment are intended to give the Torcal a distinctive appearance while reflecting the requirements of an electric vehicle.
The cabin follows Bentley’s traditional focus on luxury materials and craftsmanship while incorporating new technology. The interior can feature leather, wood veneers, aluminium elements and sustainable upholstery materials. Bentley has also focused on passenger comfort and digital connectivity as part of the Torcal’s overall cabin experience.
The electric SUV will be available in two versions, Torcal and Torcal S. The performance-focused Torcal S develops up to 876 bhp, equivalent to 888 PS, and produces a maximum torque output of 1,350 Nm when launch control is active. Bentley describes the Torcal S as the most powerful production Bentley built so far.
The Torcal uses an 800 volt electrical architecture and a 113 kWh battery pack. Bentley claims a maximum WLTP driving range of up to 600 km. The company says the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 16 minutes when using a suitable 400 kW DC charging system. A short seven-minute charging session can add a claimed 161 km of range under the specified conditions.
Performance is another major focus of the new electric SUV. The Torcal S can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in around 2.9 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 260 kmph. These figures place the new Bentley among the high-performance luxury electric SUVs entering the global market.
Bentley has also developed a new chassis setup for the Torcal. It becomes the first Bentley to feature fully active suspension, while rear-wheel steering is also available as part of the vehicle’s dynamic technology. The rear wheels can turn by up to five degrees, helping reduce the turning circle to approximately 11.1 metres.
The Torcal also brings several technology features designed to improve everyday usability. Bentley’s technology package includes advanced driver assistance systems, parking assistance and reversing assistance. The vehicle can record the last 50 metres of a journey and assist with reversing along the same route. Remote parking functionality can also allow the vehicle to be moved into or out of a parking space using the My Bentley smartphone application in markets where the feature is available.
Practicality has not been overlooked despite the focus on luxury and performance. The Torcal provides a 460 litre rear boot along with a 90 litre front storage compartment. The combination gives owners additional storage space while retaining the proportions of a relatively compact luxury SUV compared with the larger Bentayga.
The audio system is another major part of the cabin experience. Bentley offers a standard 620 watt, 16 speaker audio system, while customers can choose an optional Naim system producing 1,780 watts through 28 speakers. The higher-end system also incorporates features such as headrest speakers, seat shakers and Dolby Atmos 7.1 technology.
For the Indian market, the Bentley Torcal is expected to arrive in the second half of 2027. Industry reports currently estimate an India price of around Rs 4.5 crore ex-showroom, but this figure should be treated as an expected price rather than an official announcement. The final Indian specification, equipment list and pricing are likely to be confirmed closer to the launch.
The Torcal represents a significant change in Bentley’s product strategy because it introduces an electric-only model without a petrol or hybrid alternative. At the same time, Bentley has attempted to retain the luxury craftsmanship, performance and technology expected from its vehicles.
With its 113 kWh battery, claimed range of up to 600 km, high-performance Torcal S variant and advanced suspension technology, the new model will enter an increasingly competitive luxury electric SUV segment. Its planned India arrival in 2027 will give Indian buyers another high-end electric SUV option from a global luxury manufacturer.
