BYD’s premium electric vehicle brand Denza is preparing for its entry into the Indian market with a dedicated dealer network, marking another important step in the Chinese automaker’s plans to expand its presence in the country. According to a recent ETAuto report, Denza has finalised or is understood to have selected several established dealer groups across important Indian markets.
The reported dealer network includes some groups that already operate BYD dealerships in India. Landmark Group is expected to manage Denza operations in Mumbai, while EVM is set to handle Bengaluru and Hyderabad. KUN is understood to have been selected for Chennai, while Cargo Motors is expected to represent the brand in Gujarat, including Ahmedabad. In the National Capital Region and Chandigarh, Passi Group’s Krishna Automobiles is expected to represent Denza.
The development is significant because Denza is expected to operate as a distinct premium brand rather than simply being added to BYD’s existing retail network. According to industry reports, Denza is planning a separate retail identity in India, with its products positioned above BYD’s current range. The separate network is intended to support the brand’s premium positioning and provide customers with a different showroom and ownership experience.
Denza was originally established as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes Benz in 2010. BYD subsequently took full ownership of the brand and has repositioned Denza toward the premium and luxury vehicle segments. The brand’s international portfolio includes electric and plug in hybrid models, although the vehicles planned for India are expected to initially arrive as completely built units, according to automotive reports.
The Denza D9 is expected to play an important role in the company’s India launch strategy. The premium electric MPV is positioned in a segment that includes models such as the Toyota Vellfire, Lexus LM and MG M9. The D9 is designed around luxury and passenger comfort, with features reported to include second row captain seats, massage functions, powered leg rests, a panoramic sunroof, premium audio and multi zone climate control.
The D9 is particularly relevant to the Indian market because luxury MPVs have attracted growing attention from premium vehicle buyers. Although the segment remains relatively small compared with mass market passenger vehicles, established models such as the Toyota Vellfire and Lexus LM have created demand for high end MPVs offering a combination of comfort, space and premium features.
Denza is also expected to bring the Z9 GT to India. Autocar India has reported that both the D9 and Z9 GT are planned for the Indian market by the end of 2026, although exact launch dates remain subject to confirmation. The Z9 GT is positioned as a performance focused premium model and is expected to serve as a technology and brand image product for Denza.
The establishment of a dedicated dealer network could help Denza build its identity independently from BYD. While BYD has already developed a network of dealerships across several Indian states, Denza is expected to use a more focused approach aimed at premium markets. The strategy could initially concentrate on major cities where demand for luxury electric vehicles is more established.
The reported selection of Landmark, EVM, KUN, Cargo Motors and Krishna Automobiles also provides Denza with dealer groups that already have experience with BYD products. This existing experience could help the new premium brand establish operations more quickly, although the companies will still need to develop Denza specific facilities, customer experiences and after sales operations.
BYD’s existing dealer network demonstrates the company’s growing retail footprint in India. The official BYD India dealer listing includes outlets across markets such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Gujarat, Delhi and several other states. KUN, EVM, Landmark and Cargo are among dealer groups already associated with BYD’s Indian operations.
For Chennai, the reported selection of KUN is particularly notable. KUN already operates BYD dealerships in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and Coimbatore. The company’s existing presence could provide an established foundation for Denza’s planned premium operations in the city. However, the precise location and opening schedule of any Denza showroom would need to be confirmed by the company.
In Mumbai, Landmark Group is expected to handle Denza operations. Landmark is already an established BYD dealer group and operates BYD outlets in Maharashtra and other markets. Similarly, EVM has an existing presence in the electric vehicle retail space and operates BYD dealerships in multiple locations.
Cargo Motors is expected to represent Denza in Gujarat, including Ahmedabad. The group already operates BYD dealerships in Gujarat. In the Delhi NCR and Chandigarh markets, Krishna Automobiles under the Passi Group is reportedly being considered for Denza operations.
The reported dealer appointments also highlight Denza’s strategy of relying on established automotive retail partners instead of building an entirely new dealer organisation from the ground up. This approach could help reduce the time required to establish sales and service infrastructure before the brand’s market launch.
However, several details about Denza’s India operations remain unconfirmed. The final showroom locations, opening dates, launch prices, booking process, service infrastructure and exact model specifications will depend on official announcements from BYD and Denza. The reported dealer appointments should therefore be treated as information based on industry sources until the company formally confirms them.
Denza’s entry would add another premium electric vehicle brand to an Indian market where manufacturers are increasingly expanding their electric portfolios. The company will face competition from established luxury brands as well as newer electric vehicle manufacturers entering premium segments.
The planned positioning above BYD is also expected to give Denza a separate identity in India. While BYD’s existing portfolio covers multiple passenger vehicle segments, Denza is being developed as a more premium brand with greater emphasis on luxury, technology and customer experience.
The upcoming India launch will therefore be an important test of how a premium Chinese electric vehicle brand can establish itself in the country. With the dealer network reportedly taking shape and products such as the D9 and Z9 GT being considered for the market, Denza is moving closer to its planned Indian debut.
