Mercedes-Benz India has launched the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Offroad PRO in the Indian market at an ex-showroom price of Rs 3.80 crore. The new variant is positioned as a limited-run, off-road-focused version of the performance-oriented G 63 and comes with additional suspension technology, traction controls and expedition equipment.
The Mercedes-AMG G 63 Offroad PRO retains the familiar G-Class design while receiving several upgrades aimed at improving its capability on challenging terrain. According to Mercedes-Benz and current automotive reports, the new model is available in limited numbers in India. The Offroad PRO carries a premium of around Rs 6 lakh over the standard AMG G 63.
At the heart of the SUV is the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine used in the AMG G 63. The engine produces 585 hp and 850 Nm of peak torque and is paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. An integrated starter-generator can provide an additional 15 kW of electrical assistance at lower engine speeds.
Power is delivered to all four wheels through the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes-Benz claims that the G 63 Offroad PRO can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.4 seconds, while its electronically limited top speed is 240 kmph.
The biggest changes in the Offroad PRO are focused on its off-road hardware. The SUV gets AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension with active hydraulic roll stabilisation and adaptive damping. The system is designed to control body movement while allowing greater wheel and axle articulation when driving over uneven surfaces.
Another new feature is AMG Active Balance Control. This system allows the driver to adjust roll stiffness across three stages depending on the driving conditions. The setup is intended to provide greater flexibility when driving over different types of off-road terrain.
The SUV also receives AMG Traction PRO. The system is available in the Rock and Sand driving modes and can manage braking torque at individual wheels. According to Mercedes-Benz, the system provides seven selectable locking levels, allowing the driver to adjust the traction response depending on the terrain. This can be particularly useful when the vehicle encounters loose surfaces or situations where additional wheel traction is required.
The new suspension and traction systems are among the key differences between the Offroad PRO and the standard AMG G 63. Rather than focusing only on increased engine performance, Mercedes-Benz has equipped the limited-run variant with additional hardware intended specifically for off-road driving.
The exterior design also receives several changes. The G 63 Offroad PRO gets a Professional roof luggage rack with aluminium panels and a removable rear ladder. The equipment is designed to provide additional storage capacity for longer journeys and outdoor use.
The SUV also rides on exclusive 20-inch AMG five-twin-spoke alloy wheels finished in matte black. These wheels are fitted with 275/50 R20 tyres. AMG-specific exterior elements, including revised bumpers and other styling details, further distinguish the Offroad PRO from the standard G 63.
Inside the cabin, the G 63 Offroad PRO retains the premium equipment expected from Mercedes-AMG. The SUV gets Nappa leather upholstery, configurable ambient lighting and the company's MBUX NTG7 infotainment system. The system includes features such as augmented-reality navigation and smartphone connectivity.
A dedicated off-road cockpit has also been added. It provides the driver with information relevant to off-road driving, including vehicle position, compass direction, altitude, steering angle, tyre pressure and differential-lock status.
Another feature is the Transparent Hood function. Using the vehicle's camera system, it can provide a virtual view of the area around the front axle. This can help the driver monitor the terrain immediately ahead when negotiating obstacles or uneven surfaces.
The G 63 Offroad PRO continues to combine high-performance road capability with the traditional off-road characteristics associated with the G-Class. The model's 585 hp V8 engine gives it strong acceleration on paved roads, while the additional suspension and traction technologies are designed to improve its ability in difficult terrain.
Mercedes-Benz India has not disclosed the exact number of G 63 Offroad PRO units allocated to the Indian market. The company has confirmed that availability will be limited, making it a specialised addition to the G-Class lineup.
The launch comes as Mercedes-Benz continues to expand its premium and performance vehicle portfolio in India. The G-Class remains one of the company's most recognisable SUV nameplates, with the Indian market offering both conventional G-Class and AMG variants. Mercedes-Benz India's website currently lists the G-Class range, with the standard G-Class range starting at Rs 3.74 crore.
With the AMG G 63 Offroad PRO, Mercedes-Benz is offering buyers a version that places greater emphasis on specialised off-road equipment while retaining the performance and luxury features of the G 63. Its Rs 3.80 crore ex-showroom price places it firmly in the high-end luxury SUV segment.
The final on-road price will be higher after the addition of taxes, registration, insurance and other applicable charges. Customers should also check availability with authorised Mercedes-Benz dealers because the Offroad PRO is being offered in limited numbers.
