Adani Group has unveiled an ambitious plan to invest up to 100 billion dollars over the next decade in renewable energy driven artificial intelligence data centres across India. The investment, expected to be implemented in phases until 2035, is positioned as a major step toward strengthening the country’s digital and energy infrastructure.
The conglomerate, led by chairman Gautam Adani, stated that the initiative is designed to create a sovereign energy and compute platform. The objective is to reduce reliance on imported digital infrastructure while enabling India to emerge as a global exporter of advanced technological services. The data centres will be powered by renewable energy sources, aligning with the country’s long term sustainability and clean energy goals.
A key component of the plan includes strategic alliances with leading global technology firms. Among them is Google, which is expected to collaborate on developing a gigawatt scale campus in Visakhapatnam. Industry observers note that such partnerships can help accelerate deployment of high capacity data processing infrastructure and strengthen India’s position in artificial intelligence driven services.
According to company estimates, the 100 billion dollar investment could unlock an additional 150 billion dollars in related sectors. These sectors include server manufacturing, sovereign cloud platforms, semiconductor linked activities and advanced power transmission systems. The combined economic ripple effect over the next ten years is projected to approach 250 billion dollars, although such projections depend on market conditions and execution timelines.
India’s rapid digital adoption and expanding artificial intelligence ecosystem have increased demand for data processing capacity. Large scale data centres are considered critical infrastructure for cloud computing, financial services, e commerce, healthcare analytics and government services. Renewable energy integration into these facilities could also help address environmental concerns associated with high energy consumption.
Experts suggest that the scale of this proposed investment reflects growing confidence in India’s technology market. The development of domestic data infrastructure may enhance data sovereignty, reduce latency for users and create employment opportunities across construction, engineering and information technology sectors.
However, analysts also point out that successful implementation will require coordination with regulatory authorities, stable energy supply frameworks and significant capital deployment. Infrastructure projects of this magnitude typically involve phased execution and long gestation periods.
The announcement comes at a time when global competition in artificial intelligence infrastructure is intensifying. Countries are investing heavily in semiconductor manufacturing, cloud computing networks and renewable power integration to support AI growth.
If executed as outlined, the Adani Group initiative could contribute to strengthening India’s digital backbone and renewable energy capacity simultaneously. Further details regarding timelines, financing structures and regulatory approvals are expected to emerge as the project advances.
