A recent survey conducted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) has projected that India's annual median GDP growth for the fiscal year 2024-25 (FY25) will be 7%. This optimistic outlook reflects confidence in the country's economic recovery and growth prospects despite global uncertainties and challenges.
The Ficci survey takes into account various economic indicators, including industrial output, consumer demand, investment flows, and policy measures. According to the survey, several factors are expected to drive this growth, including:
Robust Domestic Demand: With a growing middle class and increasing consumer spending, domestic demand is anticipated to be a major driver of economic growth. Sectors such as retail, automotive, and consumer goods are likely to see significant expansion.
Government Initiatives: Various government initiatives aimed at boosting infrastructure development, manufacturing, and digitalization are expected to contribute positively to the GDP. Policies like the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and investments in smart cities and renewable energy are key highlights.
Revival of Key Sectors: Key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and services are projected to perform well, aided by favorable monsoons, policy support, and a rebound in global trade. The survey notes that the agriculture sector, in particular, is expected to benefit from improved yields and better pricing.
Stable Macroeconomic Environment: A stable macroeconomic environment, characterized by controlled inflation, a favorable interest rate regime, and a manageable fiscal deficit, is seen as providing a conducive backdrop for sustained economic growth.
Investment Inflows: Increased foreign direct investment (FDI) and domestic investments are expected to further bolster economic activity. The survey indicates that investor sentiment remains positive, driven by India's market potential and reform-oriented policies.
However, the Ficci survey also cautions about potential downside risks, including global economic uncertainties, supply chain disruptions, and inflationary pressures. It emphasizes the need for continued policy support and structural reforms to sustain the projected growth momentum.
Overall, the survey's projection of a 7% GDP growth rate for FY25 underscores a strong recovery trajectory for the Indian economy, reflecting resilience and optimism amidst the evolving global economic landscape.
