Gold prices in India showed stability on January 21, 2026, offering little change from the previous trading session. According to market data, the price of 24-carat gold stood at Rs 14,979 per gram, reflecting a negligible increase of Rs 1 per gram. Meanwhile, 22-carat gold was priced at Rs 13,731 per gram, and 18-carat gold traded at Rs 11,235 per gram.
Across most major cities, gold rates remained uniform, indicating a calm phase in the domestic bullion market. Cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Nagpur, Vijayawada and Bhubaneswar reported similar prices for both 22-carat and 24-carat gold. This consistency suggests balanced demand and stable global cues influencing local prices.
Delhi and a few other northern cities quoted slightly higher rates due to local taxes and logistics costs. In Delhi, 24-carat gold was priced at Rs 14,992 per gram, while 22-carat gold stood at Rs 13,746 per gram. Jaipur, Lucknow and Kanpur also reflected similar pricing trends.
Southern cities such as Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai continued to report relatively higher gold prices. In Chennai, 24-carat gold was quoted at Rs 15,165 per gram, while 22-carat gold was priced at Rs 13,901 per gram. The higher rates in Tamil Nadu are often attributed to strong jewellery demand, regional taxes and transportation costs.
Gold remains one of the most preferred investment options in India, especially during periods of economic uncertainty. The precious metal is widely regarded as a hedge against inflation and currency fluctuations, making it a popular choice for long-term wealth preservation. Apart from investment demand, cultural factors also play a significant role, as gold purchases increase during wedding seasons and festivals.
Domestic gold prices are influenced by a combination of global and local factors. International bullion prices, movements in the US dollar, geopolitical developments and expectations around global interest rates significantly impact gold rates in India. On the domestic front, import duties, goods and services tax, seasonal demand and currency movements contribute to price variations across regions.
Despite short-term fluctuations, market experts note that gold has historically maintained its value over long periods. Stable prices, such as those seen today, often indicate a wait-and-watch approach by investors ahead of major global economic signals.
As markets continue to monitor global trends, gold prices in India are expected to remain sensitive to international developments. For now, the steady rates provide some comfort to buyers and investors planning purchases in the near term.
