Indian Railways is on track to revolutionize domestic travel with the introduction of India’s first-ever Shinkansen bullet trains, connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad on the 508 km long High-Speed Rail Corridor. The project, scheduled for full operations by 2026, will significantly reduce the travel time between these two major cities, cutting it down from 6-7 hours to just about 2 hours.
With each bullet train car costing Rs 27.86 crore, the trains will embody the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, showcasing cutting-edge technology and offering advanced amenities. While the tender for Shinkansen technology, aiming for a top speed of 320 km/h, is still under discussion, Indian Railways is aiming for a train that will travel at a speed of 280 km/h on the corridor.
The development of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is in line with the government's push for ‘Make-in-India,’ with the trains being built domestically and utilizing European, Indian, and Japanese standards. This ambitious venture is part of Indian Railways’ broader plan to modernize the nation’s transport infrastructure.
