Macro-economic stability plays a critical role in attracting domestic and foreign investment, said V Vaidyanathan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IDFC First Bank, during his address at the India Economic Conclave 2025. The event, organised by Times Network, brought together policymakers, business leaders, economists, and global investors to discuss India’s evolving economic landscape.
Speaking at the conclave, Vaidyanathan emphasised that capital flows toward economies that demonstrate policy consistency, fiscal discipline, and a stable macro-economic environment. He noted that investors seek predictability in inflation, interest rates, and regulatory frameworks before making long-term commitments. According to him, maintaining these fundamentals is essential for sustaining economic growth and financial resilience.
Vaidyanathan highlighted that India’s progress over the past decade has been supported by structural reforms, improvements in banking stability, and enhanced transparency in governance. However, he cautioned that continued efforts are needed to preserve macro-economic balance, especially in the face of global uncertainties such as geopolitical tensions, fluctuating commodity prices, and changing monetary policies in major economies.
He also pointed out that a strong banking system is central to macro-economic stability. Well-capitalised banks with robust risk management practices help ensure efficient credit flow to productive sectors. Vaidyanathan added that regulatory clarity and institutional strength enable financial institutions to support entrepreneurship, infrastructure development, and job creation more effectively.
The IDFC First Bank CEO further stated that India’s demographic advantage and expanding domestic market offer significant opportunities for investors. However, he stressed that these advantages must be complemented by prudent fiscal management and long-term policy vision. Stability in taxation, regulatory processes, and financial markets, he said, can help attract patient capital that contributes to sustainable development.
The India Economic Conclave 2025 continues the legacy of the Times Network India Economic Conclave, which has, over the past decade, emerged as a leading platform for shaping discussions on economic policy and growth. The conclave facilitates dialogue between government representatives, corporate leaders, and global stakeholders, enabling exchange of ideas on reforms, innovation, and investment strategies.
Vaidyanathan’s remarks resonated with the broader theme of the conclave, which focused on strengthening India’s economic foundations amid global challenges. Participants discussed ways to enhance competitiveness, improve ease of doing business, and ensure inclusive growth.
As India positions itself as a major destination for global capital, speakers at the conclave reiterated that maintaining macro-economic stability remains a key priority. According to Vaidyanathan, sustained focus on economic fundamentals will help India navigate global volatility and secure long-term investment essential for continued growth.
