Wipro Introduces Revised Hybrid Work Policy With Six Hour Daily Office Requirement

After the global health crisis, most technology firms had adopted work from home and hybrid models to ensure business continuity.

Indian information technology major Wipro Ltd has redrawn the boundaries of hybrid work by issuing fresh guidelines that require employees to spend at least six hours a day in office. The decision marks a significant change in the company approach to flexible working and reflects a broader trend seen across the IT sector in India.

After the global health crisis, most technology firms had adopted work from home and hybrid models to ensure business continuity. Over time, companies began reviewing the impact of long term remote work on productivity and organizational culture. Wipro is now among the latest to introduce stricter rules to encourage more face to face interaction.

Under the revised hybrid work policy, employees are expected to report to their designated office locations and complete a minimum of six working hours each day. Earlier, the company allowed a limited number of optional remote work days annually. That provision has been retained but scaled down. Staff members can now take up to 12 days of temporary remote work in a year instead of the 15 days permitted before.

According to internal communications cited in media reports, the 12 remote days are meant for genuine personal needs. Workers can use them for self care, medical reasons, illness, or important caregiving responsibilities at home. The company clarified that this allowance is not intended to support regular long term work from home arrangements.

The new mandate is designed to improve coordination among project teams. Wipro leaders believe that in person presence helps faster decision making, better mentoring of junior employees, and stronger innovation. Physical office attendance also allows companies to maintain security standards and protect sensitive client data more effectively.

Human resource experts say the policy brings more clarity for employees who were earlier unsure about attendance expectations. By specifying the six hour requirement, Wipro has created a balanced system where flexibility exists but within defined limits.

The move has generated mixed reactions from the workforce. While some employees welcome the return to normal office culture, others feel commuting challenges may increase, especially in big cities. However, analysts note that most Indian IT companies are gradually reducing remote options and asking staff to work from office for the majority of the week.

Wipro updated guidelines also underline the importance of organizational bonding. Many young professionals who joined the company during fully remote periods had limited direct contact with managers and colleagues. The fresh rules are expected to help them integrate better into the corporate environment.

The change is part of a larger reassessment taking place in the Indian technology industry. Companies such as TCS, Infosys, and HCLTech have already introduced return to office policies. The focus is on rebuilding collaborative ecosystems that suffered due to prolonged remote operations.

Workplace observers say hybrid work in India is entering a new phase. Instead of complete flexibility, firms now prefer a model where office attendance becomes the default and remote work remains an exception.

Wipro continues to be one of India leading employers with thousands of staff members across the country. The company has assured that temporary remote work will still be available whenever truly required.

The revised hybrid policy shows how Indian corporations are trying to find the right balance between employee convenience and business efficiency. As the IT sector evolves, more firms are expected to introduce similar structured attendance models.

For now, the six hour office mandate represents Wipro clear message that physical presence and teamwork are central to its future growth strategy. Employees are advised to plan their remote days wisely and adapt to the updated hybrid work environment in the coming months.
