Easing Inflation and Stable Policy Outlook : Retail inflation for March came in lower than expected at 5.1%, reinforcing expectations that the Reserve Bank of India will maintain its current interest rate stance, creating a favourable environment for equities.

The Indian equity markets continued their upward trajectory for the sixth consecutive session on Monday, as both the Sensex and Nifty closed higher, supported by robust foreign institutional investor (FII) inflows and a strong showing by the banking and financial sectors.

The BSE Sensex rose 342 points to close at 74,130, while the NSE Nifty ended the day at 22,570, marking a gain of 98 points. The rally reflects a renewed investor confidence in the Indian economy amid easing global uncertainties and encouraging domestic indicators.

Key Drivers Behind the Market Rally:

Strong FII Inflows:

FIIs continued their buying streak, pumping in over ₹2,000 crore into Indian equities, as global investors grow increasingly optimistic about India's growth prospects.

Banking and Financial Stocks Surge:

The Nifty Bank index gained over 1.2%, driven by solid quarterly earnings from major banks and expectations of continued credit growth.

Corporate Earnings Season:

Early Q4 earnings have beaten estimates, especially in the banking, IT, and FMCG sectors, which is boosting investor morale.

Easing Inflation and Stable Policy Outlook:

Retail inflation for March came in lower than expected at 5.1%, reinforcing expectations that the Reserve Bank of India will maintain its current interest rate stance, creating a favourable environment for equities.

Positive Global Cues:

Global stock markets remained largely stable amid hopes that US Fed rate hikes may be paused, further lifting market sentiment across emerging markets.

Sectoral Performance:

Top Gainers: ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, and State Bank of India led the gains in the financial space.

IT Stocks: After a recent correction, IT companies showed marginal recovery amid stability in US markets.

Energy and FMCG Stocks: Mixed performance was noted, with some profit-booking seen after previous rallies.

 Expert Insights:

According to market analysts, the current rally is well-supported by fundamentals. “The sustained FII inflow is a clear vote of confidence. As long as earnings continue to meet or exceed expectations, markets will stay resilient,” said Ramesh Mehta, a Mumbai-based equity strategist.

However, he also cautioned against over-optimism, noting that global macroeconomic risks and potential geopolitical tensions could trigger volatility.

Outlook:

With positive domestic cues and strong earnings, analysts remain cautiously optimistic. Investors are advised to watch upcoming earnings reports and global central bank commentary closely. For now, the bulls seem firmly in control.

Positive Global Cues : Global stock markets remained largely stable amid hopes that US Fed rate hikes may be paused, further lifting market sentiment across emerging markets.
