Indian stock markets witnessed a powerful rally on Tuesday, with benchmark indices closing sharply higher amid positive global cues and strong domestic buying. The surge came after the United States announced a significant reduction in tariffs on Indian exports, boosting investor confidence and triggering a broad-based market rally.
The BSE Sensex jumped 2,072.67 points, or 2.54 percent, to close at 83,739.13. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty rose 639.15 points, or 2.55 percent, ending the session at 25,727.55. The rally marked one of the strongest single-day gains in recent weeks and reflected renewed optimism among investors.
The key trigger behind the market surge was US President Donald Trump’s announcement that tariffs on Indian goods exported to the United States would be slashed to 18 percent from the earlier level of 50 percent. Market participants viewed the move as a major boost for Indian exporters and a positive development for bilateral trade relations.
Export-oriented sectors such as information technology, pharmaceuticals, metals, and automobiles witnessed strong buying interest. Shares of companies with significant exposure to the US market moved higher as expectations of improved earnings prospects grew. Banking and financial stocks also contributed to the rally, supported by overall risk-on sentiment.
Analysts said the tariff reduction eased concerns over trade-related headwinds that had weighed on Indian markets in recent weeks. The announcement helped offset worries related to global economic uncertainty and encouraged foreign institutional investors to return to Indian equities.
Market breadth remained firmly positive, with most stocks on both benchmark indices ending in the green. Mid-cap and small-cap stocks also participated in the rally, reflecting widespread investor confidence rather than isolated buying in select large-cap stocks.
Global markets provided additional support, as Asian equities traded higher on optimism surrounding easing trade tensions. A stable rupee and steady crude oil prices further helped strengthen sentiment in domestic markets.
Experts cautioned that while the rally reflects strong optimism, investors should remain watchful of global developments, including inflation trends, central bank policies, and geopolitical factors. They also advised selective stock picking rather than chasing momentum-driven gains.
From a technical perspective, analysts noted that the Nifty’s close above the 25,700 mark strengthens its bullish outlook in the near term. Sustained buying could push the index toward higher resistance levels if positive cues continue.
The rally capped a blockbuster session on Dalal Street, reinforcing the market’s resilience amid external challenges. With trade-related concerns easing, investors will now focus on upcoming macroeconomic data, corporate earnings, and further policy signals for direction.
