Indian stock markets continued their bullish momentum as both the Sensex and Nifty opened higher, driven by a surge in energy stocks. BPCL, Tata Motors, and Hindalco were among the top gainers, with BPCL rising by nearly 3%. The S&P BSE Sensex gained over 166 points while the Nifty50 added more than 70 points, indicating positive investor sentiment. Small-cap stocks also performed well, with the Nifty Smallcap100 index rising over 1%. This market uptrend comes ahead of the RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, which investors are closely monitoring for potential announcements on interest rates and economic measures.
The rally in stocks like ONGC and NTPC further fueled market optimism, while sectors such as Nifty Media and Oil & Gas saw substantial gains. However, the auto sector lagged behind, with Mahindra & Mahindra leading the list of losers. Analysts pointed out that the market's ability to recover quickly from dips reflects strong retail investor activity and domestic institutional support. Despite concerns over high valuations, the market’s resilience has been a key factor in sustaining the ongoing rally.
As volatility indicators such as the India VIX rose, market participants remain cautious but hopeful. While financial and banking sectors saw minor losses, the overall sentiment remains positive with expectations from the upcoming RBI MPC meeting playing a significant role in shaping market movements.
