FIIs Drive Market Sentiment Market experts attribute the rebound largely to foreign investment inflows, which have turned net positive amid easing global inflation concerns and optimism around India's growth prospects.

The Indian stock markets witnessed a sharp rebound this week as benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty recovered from recent lows, supported by substantial inflows from Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs). In a span of just 10 trading sessions, FIIs have poured in over ₹37,000 crore, reversing the selling pressure seen earlier in the financial year.

The 30-share BSE Sensex surged over 1,200 points in recent sessions, while the NSE Nifty 50 regained crucial psychological levels, crossing the 22,500 mark. The recovery was led by heavyweights in the banking, information technology (IT), and automobile sectors.

FIIs Drive Market Sentiment

Market experts attribute the rebound largely to foreign investment inflows, which have turned net positive amid easing global inflation concerns and optimism around India's growth prospects. Analysts believe that lower US bond yields and a relatively stable rupee have made Indian equities more attractive to global investors.

Over the past month, foreign investors had been net sellers in Indian markets, mainly due to geopolitical uncertainty, high crude oil prices, and fears of aggressive monetary tightening by the US Federal Reserve. However, the recent turnaround suggests growing confidence in India’s economic fundamentals and earnings potential.

Sectoral Performance and Top Gainers

Banking stocks led the charge, with major private lenders like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank posting strong gains. The Bank Nifty index rose by over 2% during the week. IT stocks, which had faced pressure from weak global cues, also bounced back. Infosys, TCS, and Wipro registered significant gains as investor outlook improved following better-than-expected quarterly results.

In the auto sector, companies like Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, and Mahindra & Mahindra saw renewed buying interest, supported by robust sales data and positive management commentary. FMCG and pharma stocks, though relatively muted, remained steady amid continued domestic consumption strength.

Domestic Supportive Factors

The domestic economic indicators have also played a role in lifting market sentiment. Recent data points to sustained GST collections, strong industrial output, and manageable inflation levels. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has maintained a balanced monetary stance, supporting growth while keeping a close watch on inflationary trends.

Additionally, positive commentary from corporate earnings reports and a stable political environment ahead of the general elections have further boosted investor morale.

Outlook and Investor Strategy

With foreign inflows picking up and domestic fundamentals holding firm, analysts expect markets to remain resilient in the near term. However, they advise caution amid potential global headwinds such as geopolitical developments, fluctuations in crude prices, and any changes in the US Federal Reserve’s policy outlook.

Investors are being encouraged to focus on quality stocks with strong earnings visibility and to avoid overexposure to high-volatility segments. As India remains one of the fastest-growing large economies, the outlook for equities continues to be favorable over the medium to long term.
