Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, noted that the domestic market remained flat ahead of the holiday, with performance being dragged down by weakness in metal and power stocks.

On December 25, 2024, the Indian stock market, including the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE), will be closed in observance of Christmas, a public holiday widely celebrated across India. As per the holiday schedule for both exchanges, trading in all market-related instruments—including equity, equity derivatives, derivatives, commodities, bonds, SLB, and more—will not take place on Wednesday. As a result, investors will not be able to buy or sell stocks or engage in other market activities on Christmas Day.

The Indian stock market had a mixed performance earlier in the week. On December 24, both the Sensex and Nifty indices ended lower, erasing their early gains. The Sensex closed 67 points down at 78,473, while the Nifty 50 lost 26 points, settling at 23,728. The decline was attributed to a weak performance in the metal and PSU bank sectors, which weighed on investor sentiment. On the other hand, sectors like FMCG and auto showed some resilience, benefiting from recent corrections.

Investors will have to wait until Thursday, December 26, for the markets to resume trading. With the stock market closed for Christmas, many will use the break to reflect on the week's performance and adjust their strategies ahead of the final trading days of the year.
