On July 31, Indian indices opened on a positive note amid mixed global cues. The Sensex climbed 187.35 points, or 0.23%, to 81,642.75, while the Nifty increased by 58.70 points, or 0.24%, reaching 24,916.
Market breadth showed a predominance of advancing shares, with 1,816 gaining, 579 declining, and 152 remaining unchanged. Key gainers on the Nifty included NTPC, Tata Motors, BPCL, Maruti Suzuki, and Titan Company. In contrast, Tata Consumer, Axis Bank, Coal India, Power Grid Corp, and Reliance Industries were among the top decliners.
Wednesday’s session is set to be eventful, with a number of earnings reports scheduled for release. Notable stocks such as Tata Consumer Products, Ajanta Pharma, Dixon Technologies, Indus Towers, Navin Fluorine, and Torrent Power will report their quarterly results. Additionally, major Nifty 50 constituents including Coal India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, and Tata Steel, along with broader market players like Adani Power, Ambuja Cements, and Bank of Baroda, will also release their earnings.
The Nifty Bank sector, a significant driver of index movements, is also in focus due to the weekly options expiry. After a period of limited gains throughout July, the Nifty Bank led a rebound on Friday and Monday, only to experience a substantial sell-off from its peak of 51,957 on Tuesday, mirroring Monday’s pattern with a 500-point correction.
With a trading range of 550 points over the past two sessions, the Nifty has achieved only a marginal gain of three points. The market’s attention will likely be centered on earnings results and the performance of the Nifty Bank, which will play a crucial role in shaping Wednesday's trading activity.
