The Indian stock market recorded a strong rebound on Monday after facing losses for three consecutive trading sessions. Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty surged by more than one percent, reflecting improved investor sentiment and value buying across key sectors.
The recovery was largely driven by gains in banking and blue chip stocks, which attracted investors after recent declines. Market participants took advantage of lower valuations, leading to renewed buying interest. Among the top performers were UltraTech Cement, Trent Limited, HDFC Bank, Mahindra and Mahindra, Eternal Limited, and Bajaj Finance. These stocks contributed significantly to the upward movement of the indices.
Sector wise performance indicated a mixed trend. Banking, financial services, automobile, and FMCG stocks led the gains, showing resilience and strong investor confidence. On the other hand, sectors such as oil and gas, real estate, energy, healthcare, and power witnessed some selling pressure, limiting the overall market gains.
In the broader market, investor sentiment was also influenced by global cues. Asian markets showed a mixed performance, with South Korea’s Kospi index and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index displaying varied trends during the session. Meanwhile, the United States markets ended lower on Friday, which had earlier contributed to cautious sentiment among investors.
Foreign institutional investors continued to remain net sellers in the Indian market. On Friday, they sold shares worth more than ten thousand crore rupees, which had added to the previous market decline. However, domestic institutional investors provided some support, helping stabilize the market during Monday’s session.
Analysts believe that the recent recovery is largely due to value buying and short covering after the sharp decline seen in the past few sessions. They also point out that market volatility may continue in the near term due to global uncertainties, inflation concerns, and interest rate expectations.
Despite these challenges, the long term outlook for the Indian stock market remains positive, supported by strong economic fundamentals and corporate earnings growth. Investors are advised to remain cautious and focus on fundamentally strong stocks while navigating short term volatility.
Overall, Monday’s rally provided some relief to investors after recent losses and highlighted the resilience of the Indian equity market amid mixed global signals.
