After a challenging week, the Indian stock markets saw a positive turn on Monday, as the BSE Sensex snapped its 5-day losing streak with a significant 499-point surge, closing at 78,568. Similarly, the Nifty 50 index climbed by 146.50 points, settling at 23,734. This upward movement was largely fueled by strong gains in key sectors, notably metals and consumer goods.
The major drivers of today’s market rally included stocks like SAIL (Steel Authority of India Ltd.), which saw a sharp 4% rise, and ITC Ltd., which gained 2%. Investors showed optimism as a result of easing inflation concerns globally, which bolstered investor sentiment. The rally was also attributed to a rebound in global markets, particularly in the US, where lower-than-expected inflation data helped calm fears of aggressive interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve.
The Bank Nifty also showed a recovery, gaining 1.2% amid broad-based buying across financial stocks. ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank were among the top contributors to the rally.
Despite the positive session, market analysts caution that the Nifty 50 faces resistance around the 23,800 mark. A sustained move above this level could suggest further gains in the coming days, but the overall sentiment remains cautious, as global economic concerns and domestic challenges continue to impact investor confidence.
As the trading week progresses, attention will be on global developments and domestic earnings reports to gauge the strength of this recovery.
