The rally comes as the sugar industry eagerly awaits policy updates from the government, which could include a potential increase in the ethanol blending price.

Sugar stocks experienced a significant rally, climbing as much as 8% in the stock market amid rising optimism over potential policy boosts. Investors are increasingly hopeful for a hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for sugarcane and a revision of ethanol prices by the government, which could lead to improved earnings for sugar manufacturers.

Leading the surge were shares of Shree Renuka Sugars and Balrampur Chini Mills, both of which saw substantial gains in intraday trading. Shree Renuka Sugars jumped by over 7%, while Balrampur Chini surged around 6.5%, reflecting the market’s positive sentiment surrounding the sector.

The rally comes as the sugar industry eagerly awaits policy updates from the government, which could include a potential increase in the ethanol blending price. Ethanol production, which is a byproduct of sugar production, has become a crucial revenue stream for sugar mills, especially with the government’s push towards higher ethanol blending in fuels. A price hike in ethanol would significantly boost profit margins for companies like Shree Renuka and Balrampur Chini, both of which have been expanding their ethanol production capacities.

In addition to hopes of ethanol price revisions, the sugar sector is also looking forward to a possible MSP increase for sugarcane. The MSP sets a minimum price that sugar mills must pay to farmers for their sugarcane, and any upward revision would support higher revenue for mills, though it could also increase their cost burdens.

Dhampur Sugar Mills, Dwarikesh Sugar Industries, and Triveni Engineering were other notable performers in the sector, all benefiting from the rising anticipation of government policy changes.

Market experts believe that the sugar sector could continue to perform well in the coming months, supported by favorable government policies, increasing ethanol demand, and a strong focus on clean energy initiatives. Investors are advised to keep a close eye on official announcements regarding MSP and ethanol pricing, as these will be key factors influencing the future trajectory of sugar stocks.
