During registration, applicants must provide personal details, academic qualifications, and contact information, and upload necessary documents such as a photograph, signature, and proof of academic eligibility.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has officially extended the registration window for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2026. Candidates now have until October 20, 2025, to apply through the official IIT JAM portal, joaps.iitb.ac.in. The extension provides an additional opportunity for students who missed the original registration deadline of October 12, 2025, to submit their applications successfully.

The IIT JAM examination is a national-level entrance test conducted for admission to postgraduate programs such as M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., and other postgraduate courses offered at IITs and IISc Bangalore. It is a highly competitive exam, attracting thousands of aspirants every year who seek to secure admission to premier institutions in India.

The official schedule indicates that IIT JAM 2026 will be conducted on February 15, 2026, in two sessions: forenoon and afternoon. The examination will cover seven subject-specific papers: Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS), and Physics (PH). Candidates can choose the paper(s) relevant to their field of study while ensuring they meet the eligibility criteria for their chosen postgraduate programs.

Eligible candidates are required to register through the official online application portal, joaps.iitb.ac.in. During registration, applicants must provide personal details, academic qualifications, and contact information, and upload necessary documents such as a photograph, signature, and proof of academic eligibility. Payment of the application fee completes the registration process. Candidates should carefully verify all information to prevent discrepancies that could affect their application.

The IIT JAM exam evaluates candidates’ understanding of undergraduate-level subjects and their aptitude for advanced studies. The exam comprises multiple-choice questions (MCQs), multiple-select questions (MSQs), and numerical answer type (NAT) questions. Each paper is designed to test conceptual clarity, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability in the respective subject.

It is crucial for candidates to begin preparation as early as possible due to the competitive nature of the exam. Reviewing previous years’ question papers, practising mock tests, and understanding the detailed syllabus can significantly enhance performance. Candidates should also manage time effectively to ensure completion of all sections during the examination.

The extended registration deadline provides additional time for aspirants to complete the online application process without missing this important opportunity. Once registered, candidates will be able to download their admit cards closer to the exam date, which will include details of exam timing, session, and venue.

IIT JAM 2026 serves as a gateway for admission to postgraduate programs in science, technology, and allied disciplines at India’s top institutes. Candidates are encouraged to complete their registration before the new deadline of October 20, 2025, to secure eligibility for the examination and take the next step toward higher education.
