The Medical Counselling Committee has officially extended the deadline for filling choices for Round 2 of NEET PG 2025 counselling, providing additional time to thousands of postgraduate medical aspirants across the country. According to the latest notification issued by MCC, candidates can now submit and modify their choices until December 12, 2025. Earlier, the choice filling window was scheduled to close on December 9.
The extension comes amid requests from various state authorities and stakeholders seeking a brief postponement to ensure smoother coordination between the All India Quota and state-level counselling processes. Along with the updated choice filling deadline, MCC has also announced that the portal for uploading PwD certificates will remain active until 4 pm on December 12. This move is expected to benefit candidates under the Persons with Disabilities category who require additional time for document verification.
At the same time, MCC confirmed that the resignation window for Round 1 allotted seats was closed on December 10. This means that candidates who were allotted seats in the first round but did not resign within the stipulated period will be bound by their allotment as per existing rules. The closure of the resignation facility follows requests from several states that sought adjustments in the counselling calendar to align with their respective admission schedules.
The NEET PG 2025 counselling process is being conducted for admission to MD, MS and PG Diploma courses under the All India Quota, deemed universities, central universities and Armed Forces Medical Services institutions. Round 2 plays a crucial role for candidates who either did not receive a seat in the first round or are seeking an upgrade from their earlier allotment. With the extension, candidates now have additional time to carefully review available seat options, colleges and specialisations before locking in their final preferences.
MCC has advised candidates to visit the official website regularly for the latest updates and to complete their choice filling well before the revised deadline to avoid last-minute technical issues. Candidates must ensure that they arrange their preferences in the correct order of priority, as seat allotment will be strictly based on NEET PG rank, reservation criteria and the choices filled by the applicant. Once the locking period ends, no further changes will be permitted.
Following the completion of choice filling, MCC is expected to release the Round 2 seat allotment result as per the updated counselling schedule. Candidates who receive a seat in this round will be required to report to their allotted colleges within the prescribed joining period along with original documents for verification and admission formalities. Failure to report within the stipulated time could lead to cancellation of the allotted seat and forfeiture of the security deposit, as per counselling rules.
The extension is being seen as a relief for many candidates who were awaiting confirmation of state counselling timelines or documentation approvals. Medical education experts advise aspirants to use this additional time judiciously to assess their chances across clinical and non-clinical branches and to make informed decisions based on past year cut-offs and current seat availability.
NEET PG remains one of the most competitive entrance examinations in India, with thousands of candidates vying for limited postgraduate medical seats each year. With Round 2 now extended, the focus shifts to ensuring timely participation and strict adherence to the revised deadlines to secure a seat in the 2025 academic session.
