In a significant move aimed at offering students greater flexibility in their academic journey, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a new policy for students in Classes 9 and 10. Under the revised plan, students will now be able to choose between Standard or Advanced levels for key subjects such as Social Science and Science.
The new structure is designed to allow students to tailor their learning experience based on their strengths and future aspirations. While the Standard level will cater to those who are pursuing a general academic path, the Advanced level will be aimed at students who wish to delve deeper into the subject matter, preparing them for more specialized learning in the higher grades.
This change is expected to help students better manage the academic pressures of the board exams while also fostering a deeper understanding of core subjects. The CBSE board believes that this dual-level option will allow students to focus on their areas of interest, ensuring they receive the right foundation for their future educational goals.
The decision comes after numerous requests from parents and educators to introduce a more customized approach to subject choices. By offering both levels, CBSE seeks to address the varying academic capabilities of students and provide them with opportunities for a more personalized learning experience.
In addition to the flexibility in subject choice, the CBSE is also working on revising its assessment system to accommodate these changes. The new policy is expected to be implemented in the upcoming academic year, and detailed guidelines regarding the selection process, as well as evaluation criteria, will be shared with schools shortly.
The move to allow differentiation between Standard and Advanced levels is part of the CBSE's broader initiative to modernize the curriculum and assessment practices, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This will also open doors for students to explore their academic interests at a deeper level, laying the groundwork for specialized studies in Class 11 and beyond.
As schools and students prepare for the changes, the CBSE has assured that adequate support and resources will be provided to ensure smooth implementation of the new system.
