The Himachal Pradesh government has already initiated several education-focused reforms, including digital learning programs , teacher training modules , and vocational skill integration for senior students.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a significant step toward transforming the state’s education sector with the establishment of 100 CBSE-based schools across different districts. The move is part of the government’s mission to bring state-run schools in line with national education standards and enhance academic competitiveness for students.

Addressing a public function, the Chief Minister emphasized that education remains a top priority for his administration. The new CBSE-affiliated institutions will serve as model schools, integrating digital classrooms, modern infrastructure, and interactive teaching techniques. These schools are expected to provide students with a stronger foundation in STEM subjects, language proficiency, and analytical skills — aligning with CBSE’s curriculum framework.

Separate Cadre for Teachers

In a major policy decision, the Chief Minister also announced the formation of a dedicated cadre for teachers under the education department. This new system will focus on teacher specialization, skill enhancement, and accountability. Sukhu explained that the move will ensure that educators are better equipped to handle CBSE’s academic requirements while also fostering professional growth.

The new cadre will also enable merit-based transfers and promotions, reducing bureaucratic delays and ensuring fair evaluation processes. Teachers will receive regular training under the National Education Policy (NEP) framework to stay updated with evolving pedagogical methods and technology-based instruction.

Improving Quality and Access

The government plans to establish these CBSE-based schools strategically across rural and urban regions to ensure equitable access to quality education. The Chief Minister said that special focus will be placed on districts where students currently have limited access to CBSE-affiliated institutions.

Sukhu added that the introduction of these schools will not only help students compete in national-level examinations but also make them more employable in the future. Each school will be equipped with smart classrooms, science laboratories, digital libraries, and upgraded sports facilities.

Support from Education Department

The Education Department has been directed to prepare a comprehensive implementation plan, which will include teacher recruitment, infrastructure development, and monitoring mechanisms. Officials will also collaborate with CBSE to ensure a smooth affiliation process for all schools under the initiative.

The Himachal Pradesh government has already initiated several education-focused reforms, including digital learning programs, teacher training modules, and vocational skill integration for senior students. The Chief Minister reiterated that the upcoming CBSE-based schools will act as centers of excellence, creating a ripple effect in improving education standards throughout the state.

Vision for Future Generations

Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that education reform is the cornerstone of Himachal’s future development strategy. By adopting national-level academic practices, the state aims to prepare its youth for competitive exams, higher education, and global career opportunities.

He concluded by saying, “Our vision is to ensure that every child in Himachal has access to quality education, regardless of their location or background. The establishment of 100 CBSE-based schools and a dedicated teacher cadre marks the beginning of a new chapter in our education journey.”

Teachers will receive regular training under the National Education Policy (NEP) framework to stay updated with evolving pedagogical methods and technology-based instruction.
