Jamia Millia Islamia has approved the introduction of one year postgraduate programmes in 13 disciplines through Open and Distance Learning and Online Learning modes. The decision expands the postgraduate options available through flexible learning formats at the university for the 2026 27 academic session.
The newly approved programmes will be administered through Jamia Millia Islamia’s Centre for Distance and Online Education. According to the university order dated September 21, 2026, the programmes have been approved in accordance with the provisions of the National Education Policy 2020 and applicable University Grants Commission regulations and amendments.
The approval covers 13 postgraduate programmes in total. This includes 11 one year Master of Arts programmes, one Master of Business Administration programme and one Master of Commerce programme in Business Management.
The approved one year MA programmes are Education, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Human Resource Management, Islamic Studies, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology and Urdu. These programmes will be offered through ODL and or Online Learning mode, depending on the programme and the applicable regulatory provisions.
Along with the MA programmes, JMI has also approved a one year Master of Business Administration and a one year Master of Commerce in Business Management. These programmes will also be offered through Open and Distance Learning and or Online Learning modes through the Centre for Distance and Online Education.
The introduction of these programmes is connected with the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, which provides for greater flexibility in higher education pathways. JMI’s latest decision adds another option for students who may prefer postgraduate education through distance or online learning instead of attending a conventional full time classroom programme.
The university’s September 21 order was issued by JMI Registrar Professor Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi on behalf of the Majlis-i-Talimi, or Academic Council.
