Lady Shri Ram College for Women in New Delhi will resume regular offline classes from Thursday, September 24, 2026, after temporarily shifting teaching to online mode following a police encounter near the college campus.
The college issued a notice on September 23 confirming that regular classes would continue in offline mode on the college premises from September 24. The announcement came a day after the institution suspended physical classes following a police operation involving an accused in an alleged gang rape case in the Kalkaji area.
The temporary shift to online classes was made after a police encounter took place close to the college's back gate. Reports said the encounter occurred approximately 50 metres from the campus. The development raised concerns among students and staff because of the proximity of the incident to the college.
According to police, the encounter was connected to the investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a 17 year old girl in the Kalkaji area. Police said the incident took place at Aastha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir. The allegations are part of an ongoing criminal investigation, and the accused are entitled to due process.
The college administration responded to the developments by temporarily cancelling physical classes. It also advised students, teachers and staff members not to gather near the back gate. Guest faculty members were asked to conduct their classes online during the temporary arrangement.

Why LSR Shifted Classes Online
The decision to temporarily move classes online followed a police operation near the college. On September 22, the college suspended classes from noon after learning about the police encounter involving an accused in the Kalkaji case.
The encounter reportedly took place around 50 metres from the college's back gate. According to police, an accused opened fire at a police team during an attempt to apprehend him. Police said the accused was subsequently injured in the leg during the exchange of fire.

The LSR Students' Union also convened an emergency online General Body Meeting after the incident. Police alleged that the men separated the girl from her friend and took her to a secluded area of the park, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted.
