Candidates who have not yet applied are urged to complete the registration process immediately, as this is the final opportunity to submit applications for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has announced that the registration window for GATE 2026 with a late fee will close today. Candidates who have not yet applied are urged to complete the registration process immediately, as this is the final opportunity to submit applications for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. IIT Guwahati has indicated that it is highly unlikely there will be another extension.

GATE is one of the most competitive and widely recognized entrance examinations for engineering graduates in India. It is used for admission to postgraduate programs, such as M.Tech, M.E., and Ph.D., in prestigious institutes across the country, as well as for recruitment in public sector undertakings (PSUs) like ONGC, NTPC, and Indian Oil.

The registration process for GATE 2026 is conducted online through the official portal, gate.iitg.ac.in. Candidates need to fill in personal, academic, and contact details accurately and upload the required documents, including photographs, signatures, and relevant certificates. Applicants opting for registration with a late fee are required to pay an additional charge on top of the standard application fee.

Eligibility for GATE includes a bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, architecture, or a master’s degree in relevant disciplines. Candidates are encouraged to verify their eligibility before completing the registration process to avoid rejection.

The GATE examination evaluates candidates on the basis of technical knowledge, analytical abilities, and reasoning skills. It includes questions from the candidate’s specific engineering discipline, along with general aptitude questions. The score obtained in GATE is valid for three years and is widely accepted for admission and recruitment purposes.

With the registration window closing today, candidates must ensure that they complete all steps before the deadline, including fee payment. Technical issues or incomplete applications submitted after the cut-off will not be considered, and there will be no provision for exceptions.

After successful registration, candidates will be able to download their admit cards from the official website once released. The admit card will contain important information such as exam date, timing, and examination centre, which candidates must verify before appearing for the test.

Experts advise candidates to prepare thoroughly using previous years’ question papers, mock tests, and official GATE syllabus guidelines. Time management, problem-solving accuracy, and a clear understanding of core subjects are crucial to securing a high score.

GATE 2026 serves as a gateway for higher education and career opportunities in the engineering sector. Aspiring candidates should not miss this last chance to register, as the examination plays a pivotal role in shaping academic and professional futures.

Applicants opting for registration with a late fee are required to pay an additional charge on top of the standard application fee.
