The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made an important announcement regarding the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025. According to the latest update, the optional questions previously available in Section B of the exam have been removed, marking a major shift in the test format. This change applies to both Paper 1 (for B.E./B.Tech.) and Paper 2 (for B.Arch. and B.Planning), with students now required to answer all the questions provided in this section.
In the earlier format, Section B of the JEE Main exam allowed candidates to select a few questions to answer from a given set. This provided some flexibility to students, allowing them to skip certain questions they found more difficult or time-consuming. However, starting from 2025, this option will no longer be available, and students will need to complete all questions in the section.
The new pattern for JEE Main 2025 will consist of two sections—Section A will contain multiple-choice questions (MCQs), while Section B will include numerical value-based questions, with no choices given to students in the latter section. The NTA believes that this change will help in maintaining a uniform level of difficulty across all exam sessions and ensure that all students face the same challenge.
This change is expected to influence how students prepare for the exam. Without the option to skip certain numerical questions, students will need to focus on strengthening their skills across all topics. As JEE Main is a highly competitive exam that serves as a gateway to prestigious institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and other top engineering colleges, aspirants are advised to adjust their preparation strategies accordingly.
The NTA has assured students that all changes have been made to enhance the transparency and fairness of the exam. Additionally, NTA is expected to release a detailed syllabus and sample question papers soon to help students familiarize themselves with the new pattern. Students are encouraged to regularly check the official JEE Main website for further updates.
This reform comes as part of NTA’s efforts to ensure a streamlined and equitable process in India’s premier engineering entrance examination.
