In a special event to mark Constitution Day 2024, the Chandigarh Administration, in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra, organized a Padyatra aimed at promoting awareness about the Indian Constitution and its core principles. The Padyatra, which took place on November 26, saw an enthusiastic participation from the local youth, students, and residents, making it an impactful celebration of India's democratic values.
The march began from Sector 17, a central location in Chandigarh, and proceeded through various significant parts of the city, with participants carrying banners and posters highlighting the importance of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity—the core values enshrined in the Constitution. As they marched, participants also recited slogans promoting national unity and the upholding of constitutional rights.
Senior officials from the Chandigarh Administration, as well as members of Nehru Yuva Kendra, led the event, showcasing their commitment to fostering awareness about the Constitution among the youth. The Padyatra not only brought attention to the legal and democratic framework established by the Constitution but also aimed to inspire citizens to actively engage in upholding its principles in daily life.
This year’s Constitution Day celebrations emphasized the crucial role the Constitution plays in safeguarding fundamental rights and ensuring the democratic functioning of the country. The event served as an opportunity for the youth to reflect on the importance of their roles as citizens of India and to understand the significance of participating in the democratic process.
In addition to the Padyatra, discussions and awareness programs were also held, where experts and legal professionals spoke about the Constitution’s history, its evolution, and its continued relevance in contemporary society. The event also sought to encourage young people to take an active interest in public affairs, legal issues, and their rights as citizens.
The Padyatra was an excellent way to engage the people of Chandigarh, especially the younger generation, with the Constitution’s ideals of equality and justice. It served as a reminder of India’s commitment to democratic values and the rule of law, while also promoting a sense of unity and national pride.
By organizing this Padyatra, the Chandigarh Administration and Nehru Yuva Kendra successfully brought the community together to celebrate Constitution Day, while also inspiring a deeper understanding of the nation's foundational values among its citizens.
