Amid rising speculation over a possible change in the Chief Minister’s post, BJP leaders claim that both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar are seeking the support of Congress MLAs to strengthen their respective positions.

The political atmosphere in Karnataka has once again become tense as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that a leadership tussle is underway within the ruling Congress government. Amid rising speculation over a possible change in the Chief Minister’s post, BJP leaders claim that both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar are seeking the support of Congress MLAs to strengthen their respective positions.

In a strong statement made to the media, BJP spokespersons accused the Congress of engaging in behind-the-scenes negotiations and political maneuvers to secure loyalty within the party. BJP leaders suggested that the internal competition between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar has escalated to the point where MLAs are being approached with offers and inducements. Referring to this, one BJP leader remarked that “horses are ready for sale,” implying that political horse-trading may be underway.

The comments have sparked a political row, with the Congress party rejecting all such allegations. Congress leaders have stated that the government remains stable and united, and there is no question of a leadership change at this time. They called the BJP’s remarks a deliberate attempt to create confusion and distract from the state government's performance on development and governance.

The relationship between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar has often been seen as competitive, with both leaders holding significant influence within the state Congress unit. While Siddaramaiah brings experience and mass appeal, Shivakumar is known for his organisational skills and political networking. Political observers have noted that any shift in leadership would need to be carefully managed by the Congress high command to avoid internal unrest.

The BJP, which is currently in the opposition in Karnataka, has been actively monitoring developments within the Congress. Party leaders have suggested that the ruling party is facing internal instability and that the people of Karnataka are watching these developments closely. The BJP has also demanded transparency and clarity from the Congress on the current leadership status.

Political analysts believe that the current controversy may be linked to preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. With both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar seen as contenders for greater political prominence, efforts to consolidate support within the party may intensify in the coming months.

Despite public denials from Congress, speculation remains strong that a leadership review could be on the table post-election. The central leadership of the party has so far remained silent on the matter, further fuelling political speculation.

As the debate continues, Karnataka's political scenario remains volatile, with party dynamics and personal rivalries playing a central role. Whether the current government can maintain internal cohesion or whether the BJP’s allegations hold any weight will become clearer in the days ahead.
