Rail passengers travelling on the Sambalpur Nanded Nagavali Superfast Express encountered unexpected disruption after a reserved coach was found missing when the train arrived at Sambalpur station in western Odisha.

Rail passengers travelling on the Sambalpur Nanded Nagavali Superfast Express encountered unexpected disruption after a reserved coach was found missing when the train arrived at Sambalpur station in western Odisha. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when train number 20809 reached the station without one of its designated third AC coaches.

Passengers holding confirmed tickets for the 3AC coach were surprised to find that their allotted coach was not part of the train’s composition. Many of them had arrived early at the platform expecting a routine journey but were left confused as the coach marked on their tickets could not be located.

According to passengers, the train departed Sambalpur station without the missing coach, identified as BE2. This led to confusion and distress among travellers, as there was no prior announcement or clarification regarding the absence of the reserved coach. Ticket examiners on duty were seen handling multiple complaints and attempting to guide passengers on how to proceed.

Several passengers with confirmed berths were forced to board other coaches in the train. Some occupied vacant seats temporarily, while others stood in aisles with their luggage. More than 30 passengers were reportedly affected by the missing coach, with many uncertain whether their journey would continue smoothly.

Railway staff on the platform attempted to manage the situation by coordinating with onboard ticket examiners. However, the lack of clear communication added to passenger anxiety. Some travellers expressed concern over safety and comfort, especially those travelling long distances to Maharashtra.

The incident highlighted gaps in operational coordination, particularly in ensuring that the correct number of coaches are attached before a train’s departure. Passengers questioned how a reserved coach could be omitted without prior notice, despite confirmed ticket bookings generated by the railway system.

As of the train’s departure from Sambalpur, no official statement had been issued explaining why the coach was missing or where it was last detached. Railway officials are expected to examine whether the issue occurred due to a technical fault, scheduling error, or miscommunication during rake formation.

Such incidents, while rare, cause significant inconvenience to passengers and raise concerns about accountability within the railway administration. Travellers affected by the disruption may be eligible for refunds or alternative arrangements under existing railway rules, though clarity on compensation was not immediately available.

Passengers have urged Indian Railways to strengthen checks before train departures and improve communication during operational disruptions. Ensuring timely updates through announcements or digital alerts could help reduce confusion in similar situations.

The railway authorities are expected to review the incident and take corrective steps to prevent recurrence. Meanwhile, affected passengers have called for prompt action and better coordination to ensure smoother travel experiences in the future.
