The Bharatiya Janata Party has secured a clear majority in the Kota Municipal Corporation after winning 55 of the 100 wards in the Rajasthan urban local body elections. The result gives the BJP the required numbers to establish control over the municipal corporation, although the election process has been affected by electronic voting machine glitches in some wards.
According to the latest reported results, the Congress won 40 wards in Kota, while Independent candidates secured three seats. With 55 wards, the BJP has crossed the majority mark in the 100 member municipal corporation. The outcome gives the ruling party a strong position ahead of the election of the chairperson and vice chairperson.
However, the final process has not been completed because results from three Kota wards were withheld following EVM related problems. Reports identified the affected Kota wards as Ward 87, Ward 44 and Ward 11. A separate polling issue was also reported in Ward 4 of the Suket municipality. Authorities have ordered fresh polling in the affected areas to complete the electoral process.
The re polling in the affected areas is scheduled for September 16. The votes from the fresh polling are expected to be counted on September 17. Until the revised results are formally completed, the electoral process in the affected wards remains pending.
The EVM glitches have also resulted in a delay in the election of the chairperson and vice chairperson in the affected civic bodies. The delay is intended to allow the outstanding ward results to be completed before the next stage of the municipal election process.
The BJP's performance in Kota is significant because the party has already crossed the majority threshold with 55 declared wins. Even if the pending wards produce results that change the final tally slightly, the BJP's existing numbers provide it with a substantial advantage in the municipal corporation.
The Congress finished second with 40 wards. The party's performance gives it a sizeable opposition presence in the corporation, but it remains below the majority requirement. Three Independent candidates also won wards, giving them a smaller representation in the civic body.

With 55 wins out of 100 wards, the party has crossed the halfway mark.
