The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is set to organize the Gandhi Shilp Bazaar South India Handicrafts Exhibition in Tiruvannamalai from July 24 to July 30. The week long exhibition aims to promote India's rich handicraft heritage, provide direct market access to artisans, and encourage the preservation of traditional craftsmanship.
The exhibition is being organized under the guidance of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, and is being coordinated by FEDCROT, Madurai, a well known non governmental organization that has been actively involved in promoting handicrafts and rural artisans across Tamil Nadu.
The event will be held at Annamalai Mahal, Vengikkal, Nehru Nagar, Tiruvannamalai, where artisans from 25 states across India will showcase a wide variety of handmade products. The exhibition will officially begin on July 24 at 5.00 pm, with Tiruvannamalai District Collector Vandana Garg inaugurating the event.
The inaugural ceremony will be presided over by M. A. Subburaman, Managing Director of FEDCROT, Madurai. Senior officials from the Development Commissioner Handicrafts office, including Regional Director Lakshman Rao Adguri, Deputy Director T. V. Srinatha, and Assistant Director V. P. Abla Hassan, are expected to participate in the inauguration. The vote of thanks will be delivered by K. Jagan, State Vice President of the Tamil Nadu Consumer Centre under FEDCROT.
The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar is an annual initiative of the Ministry of Textiles that is conducted in different states across the country to encourage the growth of India's handicraft sector. The exhibition provides artisans with an opportunity to directly interact with customers, eliminating intermediaries and enabling them to receive better returns for their products.
Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to explore a diverse collection of handmade products representing different regions and cultural traditions of India. The exhibition will feature handicrafts made from natural materials such as jute, banana fibre, bamboo, wood, clay, textiles, and eco friendly materials.
