A massive rescue operation is currently underway in Nagarkurnool, Telangana, after a tunnel collapse in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project on Saturday, leaving eight workers trapped. The incident occurred during construction work, when a section of the tunnel caved in, blocking the exit and cutting off communication.
As soon as the collapse was reported, rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local authorities, were mobilized. Heavy excavation machinery has been deployed to remove debris, and oxygen is being pumped into the tunnel to ensure the workers can breathe until they are rescued.
Officials have stated that the operation is complex due to the narrow space and unstable debris inside the tunnel. Specialized rescue teams and engineers are carefully working to prevent further collapses while trying to reach the trapped individuals.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has assured that the government is closely monitoring the situation and has instructed authorities to ensure the safe evacuation of the workers. Families of the trapped workers have gathered at the site, anxiously waiting for updates.
Authorities are optimistic about reaching the trapped workers soon, and further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
