Kolkata is bracing for a chilly day as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the city’s minimum temperature may drop below 15°C today. This marks one of the lowest temperature levels of the season so far, signaling the arrival of winter in the region.
IMD officials have attributed the dip in temperature to the cold winds flowing in from northern India, where the winter season is in full swing. These winds have started affecting the weather patterns in West Bengal, especially in Kolkata and the surrounding areas.
A senior IMD official said, “The minimum temperature is expected to range between 14°C and 15°C today. The chilly winds and clear skies are creating ideal conditions for a drop in temperatures.”
Residents of Kolkata have welcomed the cooler weather, with many taking out their winter clothing. However, officials have advised people, especially children and the elderly, to take precautions against the sudden dip in temperature.
The cold wave is likely to continue over the next few days, with temperatures expected to remain below average. The IMD has also advised farmers in rural areas to protect their crops from frost.
