Special medical camps, drinking water facilities, and sanitation units were set up along the ghats to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims.

On the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima 2025, the holy city of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh witnessed a massive gathering of devotees who took a sacred dip in the Saryu River. This annual ritual, deeply rooted in Hindu tradition, marks the full moon day of the Kartik month in the Hindu lunar calendar and is regarded as one of the most spiritually significant days of the year.

From the early hours of dawn, the ghats of the Saryu River were filled with chants, devotional songs, and the fragrance of incense sticks. Pilgrims from various parts of India arrived in Ayodhya to perform the Kartik Snan, or holy bath, which is believed to cleanse sins and grant spiritual liberation. According to Hindu belief, taking a dip in the sacred waters on Kartik Purnima brings peace, prosperity, and divine blessings from Lord Vishnu.

Women and men dressed in traditional attire participated in the rituals, lighting earthen lamps and offering flowers to the flowing river as a symbol of devotion. Many devotees also performed Deepdan, the offering of light, by placing hundreds of lamps on the river’s surface, creating a mesmerizing view that illuminated the ghats of Ayodhya.

Religious leaders and priests conducted special prayers and yajnas along the riverbank. Temples in the city, including the recently constructed Ram Mandir complex, witnessed a large number of visitors. The entire city was decorated with lights and floral arrangements, enhancing the spiritual ambience of the day.

The local administration and Ayodhya Development Authority made elaborate arrangements to manage the large crowd. Security forces, volunteers, and health officials were deployed to ensure the safety and convenience of devotees. Special medical camps, drinking water facilities, and sanitation units were set up along the ghats to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims.

Kartik Purnima also marks the conclusion of the month-long Kartik Maas, a sacred period dedicated to religious observances, fasting, and charity. Many devotees had been observing rituals and fasting throughout the month, culminating in this holy bath. The day is also celebrated as Dev Deepawali in several parts of India, symbolizing the descent of gods to the earth.

Ayodhya, considered the birthplace of Lord Ram, holds immense spiritual significance during this period. The combination of Kartik Purnima and the divine presence of the Saryu River transforms the city into a vibrant center of faith and devotion.

The festival concluded with devotees offering prayers for the well-being of their families and the prosperity of the nation. The sight of thousands of lamps floating on the Saryu River created a divine spectacle, reinforcing Ayodhya’s eternal place as a symbol of India’s spiritual heritage and cultural unity.
