Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat, during a recent address, shared his views on the essence of dharma, describing it as a principle rooted in truth. Speaking at a public event attended by scholars, social leaders, and volunteers, he emphasized that dharma is not just a set of religious rituals but a deeper moral and spiritual practice that defines how one lives with integrity and purpose.
According to Bhagwat, dharma is not tied to any one religion, sect, or tradition. Instead, it is a universal principle based on truth, justice, and righteousness. He stated that when people practice dharma sincerely, they develop inner strength, courage, and determination, which are necessary to face challenges in both personal and societal life.
He said that dharma encourages individuals to rise above selfish motives and act for the welfare of others. This, in turn, creates a just and harmonious society. Bhagwat added that in a time when materialism and individualism are on the rise, practicing dharma can restore balance by promoting compassion, honesty, and unity.
He further explained that dharma is evident in one’s daily actions. Respecting others, fulfilling responsibilities honestly, and standing up for truth are all forms of dharmic behavior. He reminded the audience that great leaders in Indian history, including Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda, lived by dharma and inspired millions.
Highlighting the relevance of dharma in nation-building, Bhagwat said that a society rooted in truth and moral values is essential for a strong and united country. He called upon citizens to stay committed to dharmic values, particularly in today’s times when ethical standards are under pressure due to rapid economic and social changes.
The RSS Chief also spoke about the importance of teaching these values to the younger generation. He stressed that schools, families, and communities must play an active role in nurturing honesty, discipline, and service-mindedness among children. Dharma, according to him, provides a lifelong guide for leading a meaningful and fulfilling life.
In conclusion, Mohan Bhagwat said that the strength of any nation lies in the character of its people. When individuals follow the path of truth and righteousness, the entire country moves forward with unity and strength. His message called for a collective return to values that prioritize duty, compassion, and national interest.
The event ended with a pledge by attendees to uphold dharmic values in their personal lives and contribute to society with a sense of service and responsibility.
