Environmental awareness is also a key theme this year, with local NGOs and students participating in campaigns aimed at preserving the sanctity of the Ganga.

The holy city of Prayagraj witnessed the beginning of the ten-day Ganga Dussehra celebrations with great devotion and spiritual energy. Held at the revered Triveni Ghat, the festival commenced with thousands of devotees assembling on the banks of the River Ganga to participate in rituals, take holy dips, and offer prayers. The occasion is celebrated to mark the believed descent of the sacred River Ganga to earth, as mentioned in ancient scriptures.

Ganga Dussehra, observed during the Dashami Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Jyeshtha, is one of the most significant religious events in northern India. The festival is celebrated with grandeur in several cities along the Ganga, but Prayagraj holds special importance due to its location at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.

At Triveni Ghat, the day began with Vedic chants, bhajans, and an elaborate Ganga Aarti performed by priests dressed in traditional attire. Devotees from various parts of Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states gathered to take part in the holy rituals. Taking a dip in the Ganga on this occasion is believed to cleanse one of sins and bring spiritual merit. The atmosphere at the ghat was marked by devotion, with the air resonating with religious hymns and the ringing of bells.

The district administration has made extensive arrangements to manage the large influx of pilgrims. Security personnel, medical teams, and volunteers have been deployed to ensure the safety and convenience of devotees. Temporary shelters, drinking water facilities, and sanitation services have also been provided across key pilgrimage points.

Throughout the ten days of Ganga Dussehra, cultural events, spiritual discourses, and cleanliness drives are scheduled to take place. Local artists and performers will showcase folk traditions and classical music, highlighting the cultural heritage of the region. Religious scholars will also conduct talks on the significance of the Ganga in Hindu mythology and the need to protect the river from pollution.

Environmental awareness is also a key theme this year, with local NGOs and students participating in campaigns aimed at preserving the sanctity of the Ganga. Leaflets and banners promoting sustainable practices, such as avoiding plastic use and proper waste disposal, have been distributed at the event.

The Ganga Dussehra celebration in Prayagraj not only serves as a religious gathering but also as a reflection of India's cultural and ecological consciousness. The river, regarded as a lifeline and spiritual symbol, continues to inspire faith and devotion among millions.

The celebrations will conclude with a grand Ganga Aarti on the tenth day, expected to draw even larger crowds, culminating this spiritually enriching event with a message of purity, harmony, and environmental responsibility.

Security personnel, medical teams, and volunteers have been deployed to ensure the safety and convenience of devotees.
