On the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, Varanasi witnessed a magnificent display of devotion and celebration as thousands of devotees took part in a grand Hanuman Flag Yatra. The spiritual procession, organized by local religious groups and supported by devotees from across the state, drew large crowds and turned the ancient city into a hub of festive energy.
The Yatra began early in the morning and covered major roads and religious landmarks in Varanasi. Devotees carried giant saffron flags adorned with images of Lord Hanuman, while chanting “Jai Bajrang Bali” and singing bhajans (devotional songs). Many participants were dressed in traditional saffron attire, and some even wore costumes depicting scenes from the Ramayana.
The streets were decorated with banners, flowers, and colorful lights to mark the celebration of Lord Hanuman’s birth, which holds special significance for devotees of the Hindu faith. Cultural performances, such as dhunuchi dance, dhol-nagada beats, and recitations of Hanuman Chalisa, added to the festive atmosphere.
Local temples, especially the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir, saw long queues of devotees offering prayers, flowers, and sweets to the deity. Special rituals, aartis, and havans were conducted throughout the day. The air was filled with spiritual chants and a strong sense of community spirit.
To ensure the safety and comfort of participants, the district administration deployed additional police personnel and traffic marshals. Medical aid stations and water distribution points were also set up along the Yatra route. Drones were used for aerial monitoring, and CCTV surveillance was installed at key locations to maintain law and order.
Speaking on the occasion, one of the organizers said, “This Yatra is not just a religious event but a cultural celebration of Lord Hanuman’s unwavering devotion and strength. We’re overwhelmed by the enthusiastic participation of people from all age groups.”
Many youth volunteers joined hands to maintain cleanliness during and after the Yatra, reflecting a sense of responsibility toward public spaces.
The event concluded peacefully in the evening with a grand aarti and community feast (bhandara) organized for all attendees.
Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated with great reverence across India, but in Varanasi — a spiritual center — it takes on a unique grandeur. This year’s Flag Yatra once again showcased the city’s deep-rooted devotion and vibrant cultural spirit.
