Chaitra Navratri, which marks the start of the Hindu New Year in many regions, is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga and her nine forms. Devotees observe fasting, perform prayers and visit temples during the nine day period. The first day holds special importance, as it signifies purification and spiritual renewal. Taking a dip in the holy waters of Triveni Sangam on this day is believed to cleanse sins and bring blessings.
