A unique Shiva temple located in Jamulapalem village of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh has become an important spiritual destination for devotees. The temple is known for housing 1116 Shiva Lingas, creating a rare place of worship that attracts pilgrims from several districts of the state.
The temple has gained attention because of the large number of Shiva Lingas installed in one location. Devotees believe that chanting the name of Lord Shiva once at this temple symbolically offers prayers to all 1116 Shiva Lingas present at the shrine. This belief has strengthened the faith of worshippers and made the temple an important religious landmark in the region.
The Shiva Lingas in the temple are designed in the Pancha Mukeshwara form, which represents the five faces of Lord Shiva. This form is considered sacred in Hindu tradition and is associated with the five aspects of the deity that symbolize creation, preservation, destruction, grace and spiritual knowledge. The arrangement of the Lingas reflects this concept and gives the temple a distinctive identity.
The temple was established by the late Venkateshwara Mamba, a respected spiritual leader and Gurumatha. According to local accounts, she was deeply inspired by her pilgrimage experiences in Nepal, where she observed temples dedicated to Lord Shiva with unique forms of worship. After returning to Andhra Pradesh, she decided to create a similar spiritual space in her village where devotees could worship Lord Shiva with the same devotion and spiritual discipline.
With dedication and support from followers, she oversaw the construction of the temple and the installation of the Shiva Lingas. Over time, the temple developed into a centre of spiritual activity for the surrounding communities.
Devotees from different parts of Prakasam district and neighbouring regions regularly visit the temple to offer prayers. Rituals such as Abhishekam, chanting of mantras and special pujas are conducted on important religious occasions. Many visitors say the peaceful atmosphere and unique structure of the temple make their spiritual experience more meaningful.
The temple becomes especially crowded during major Hindu festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva. Mahashivratri is one of the most important occasions when thousands of devotees gather at the shrine. Special prayers and rituals are organised throughout the day and night as worshippers observe fasting and chant devotional hymns in praise of Lord Shiva.
Local residents consider the temple an important cultural and spiritual landmark. Apart from its religious significance, the shrine also strengthens the sense of community as people gather together to participate in festivals and rituals.
With its rare collection of 1116 Shiva Lingas and strong spiritual heritage, the Jamulapalem Shiva temple continues to attract devotees seeking blessings, peace and spiritual fulfilment.
