Agartala, Tripura:

On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, Benuban Vihar in Agartala, Tripura, witnessed a large gathering of devotees who arrived to offer prayers and participate in spiritual activities. Buddha Purnima, which marks the birth, enlightenment, and death of Lord Gautama Buddha, is celebrated with great devotion by followers of Buddhism across the world. In Tripura, Benuban Vihar is one of the key locations where this sacred day is observed with special significance.

The monastery premises were adorned with decorative lights, Buddhist flags, and flower arrangements, creating a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. Devotees from different parts of the state and neighboring regions visited the temple to seek blessings and pay their respects to Lord Buddha.

The celebrations began early in the morning with traditional Buddhist rituals. Monks from the monastery led special chanting and prayer sessions, followed by discourses on the teachings of Lord Buddha. These discourses focused on the principles of non-violence, compassion, mindfulness, and the Eightfold Path — core aspects of Buddhist philosophy.

One of the highlights of the event was the lighting of candles and incense sticks by devotees, which symbolized the removal of darkness and ignorance through wisdom. Offerings of fruits, flowers, and sweets were made at the feet of the Buddha statue inside the monastery. Many visitors also observed a day of fasting and meditation as a form of spiritual discipline.

In the evening, cultural programs including Buddhist hymns, devotional songs, and traditional dances were held in the temple courtyard. The serene environment of Benuban Vihar provided a fitting setting for the spiritually charged celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, a senior monk from the monastery said, “Buddha Purnima is not just a festival; it is a time to reflect on peace, harmony, and inner awakening. We are grateful to see so many people coming together in this sacred space.”

The Tripura state administration, in coordination with the monastery authorities, made necessary arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. Security personnel were deployed for crowd control, and basic amenities such as drinking water and medical aid were made available for attendees.

Local residents and tourists alike participated in the event, making it a vibrant and inclusive occasion. The presence of people from different communities highlighted the universal appeal of Buddha’s message and the cultural importance of the festival in Tripura.

As the celebrations concluded, many devotees expressed a sense of inner peace and spiritual fulfillment. The event at Benuban Vihar once again underscored the enduring relevance of Lord Buddha’s teachings in today’s world.

Speaking on the occasion, a senior monk from the monastery said, “Buddha Purnima is not just a festival; it is a time to reflect on peace, harmony, and inner awakening.
