Vaikuntha Ekadashi, one of the most significant festivals for devotees of Lord Vishnu, was observed with great devotion and religious fervour at the Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple in Jiyaguda, Hyderabad. The ancient temple, which dates back over 400 years, witnessed a large gathering of devotees who arrived from different parts of the city to participate in the sacred celebrations.
The festival holds special importance in Vaishnavite tradition, as it is believed that the gates of Vaikuntha, the heavenly abode of Lord Vishnu, are open on this auspicious day. Devotees observe fasting, engage in prayers, and seek divine blessings for spiritual upliftment and liberation. At the Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple, the celebrations began in the early hours with special poojas and abhishekams performed to the presiding deity.
One of the key highlights of the festival was the Vaikuntha Dwara Darshan. A specially decorated northern entrance of the temple was opened symbolically to represent the Vaikuntha gate. Devotees patiently waited in long queues to pass through the gate and offer prayers, believing that doing so brings spiritual merit and salvation. The chanting of sacred hymns, including the Vishnu Sahasranama and Divya Prabandham, created a deeply devotional atmosphere throughout the temple premises.
The temple was adorned with flowers, lights, and traditional decorations, reflecting the festive spirit of Vaikuntha Ekadashi. Priests conducted special rituals according to ancient customs, while volunteers assisted in guiding devotees and managing the crowd. Annadanam was also arranged, providing free meals to devotees as part of the temple’s long-standing tradition of service.
Temple authorities coordinated with local administration to ensure smooth conduct of the celebrations. Security measures, queue management systems, and basic facilities such as drinking water and medical assistance were put in place to accommodate the large turnout. Despite the heavy footfall, the event was conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner.
Devotees expressed satisfaction with the arrangements and shared that participating in the Vaikuntha Ekadashi celebrations at the historic temple was a spiritually fulfilling experience. Many families made it a point to visit the temple annually on this auspicious occasion, highlighting the cultural and religious importance of the festival in the region.
The Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple in Jiyaguda continues to be a significant spiritual centre in Hyderabad, preserving centuries-old traditions and attracting devotees during major festivals like Vaikuntha Ekadashi. The celebrations once again reflected the enduring faith and devotion of the people, reinforcing the temple’s role in the city’s religious and cultural heritage.
