The Henley Passport Index is considered a comprehensive gauge of a passport's global mobility, considering various factors including political stability, economic conditions, and international cooperation.

India has made significant strides in the Henley Passport Index (HPI) 2025 rankings, showcasing notable improvements in its global standing. According to the latest report, India's passport has climbed several places, offering its citizens greater access and travel freedom. The Henley Passport Index, which ranks passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa, has highlighted India’s continuous progress in recent years.

In the 2025 rankings, India has moved up in comparison to several other countries, benefiting from strong diplomatic relations and improved global mobility agreements. As of now, Indian passport holders can travel to 66 destinations without requiring a visa or with visa-on-arrival access, making it one of the more favorable passports in the world in terms of travel flexibility.

On the flip side, neighboring Pakistan has seen a decline in the rankings. Pakistan's passport is now ranked lower than both Bangladesh and Somalia, marking a drop in the country's position. This decline reflects Pakistan's struggle in securing better visa access and reflects ongoing challenges with global diplomatic relations and mobility agreements. Despite being one of the largest and most populous countries in South Asia, Pakistan's passport now offers fewer travel freedoms compared to its neighbors.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, has been improving its passport ranking steadily over recent years. It now surpasses Pakistan, as Bangladeshi passport holders can travel to 72 destinations visa-free or with visa-on-arrival access. This marks a significant leap for Bangladesh, highlighting its growing diplomatic influence and strategic international relations.

The Henley Passport Index is considered a comprehensive gauge of a passport's global mobility, considering various factors including political stability, economic conditions, and international cooperation. As countries like India and Bangladesh improve their rankings, it underscores their rising prominence in the global community. On the other hand, the fall of Pakistan in the rankings is an indication of the shifting dynamics in South Asia, where diplomatic ties and global perceptions play a significant role in shaping travel accessibility.

India’s progress in the Henley Passport Index is a reflection of its growing global stature, better relations with key nations, and strategic international policies aimed at enhancing connectivity. However, the gap between South Asian neighbors remains a topic of discussion, with some countries continuing to climb while others face challenges that hinder their global standing.
