Cultural and Social Connections For the Tamil diaspora in Thailand, as well as Thai nationals visiting India, a daily flight would create more opportunities for cultural exchange, family visits, and business activities.

Since its launch in September 2024, AirAsia’s Tiruchirappalli (Trichy)-Bangkok route has been operating three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. However, passengers on this popular route are now calling for the airline to increase flight frequency to daily service, citing several key reasons for the demand.

  1. Increased Flexibility and Convenience
One of the primary reasons for the demand is the increased convenience that daily flights would offer. Passengers, especially those traveling for business, would benefit from more flexible flight options, making it easier to plan trips at their preferred time without being limited to a few days a week.
  2. Boosting Tourism and Trade
A daily service would enhance connectivity between Tamil Nadu and Thailand, opening up opportunities for tourism and fostering economic ties. Many passengers believe that a more frequent flight schedule could attract more visitors to both destinations, benefiting the tourism industry as well as business sectors such as trade and hospitality.
  3. Cultural and Social Connections
For the Tamil diaspora in Thailand, as well as Thai nationals visiting India, a daily flight would create more opportunities for cultural exchange, family visits, and business activities. This added frequency could make travel between the two countries smoother and more accessible.
  4. Growing Demand
The popularity of the Trichy-Bangkok route is growing, and passengers have expressed that the existing thrice-weekly schedule does not fully meet their travel needs. The demand for more flights reflects the increasing need for better connectivity, especially as travel resumes after the pandemic.

AirAsia’s decision to launch this route was seen as a strategic move to tap into the growing demand for international travel from southern India. With this success in mind, the airline is now evaluating the feasibility of expanding the frequency of flights to daily services. If implemented, this change could be a game-changer for both the airline and the passengers, further boosting the travel options available between India and Thailand.

As AirAsia considers passenger feedback and the viability of the change, it remains to be seen whether a daily service will become a reality in the near future.
