Scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 7, followed by the withdrawal deadline on October 9. Counting will take place on October 16 after polling.
Ram Gopal Yadav, who is among the Rajya Sabha members whose term is ending, has said that he will contest if the Samajwadi Party gives him the nomination. He also explained that the number of candidates fielded by political parties depends on their strength in the state Assembly and the number of seats they are in a position to secure.
The upcoming Rajya Sabha election is significant for Uttar Pradesh because the state has 10 seats going to polls. The electoral college consists of elected members of the state Legislative Assembly, and the outcome depends on the numerical strength of the parties in the Assembly.
