BJP Launches Nationwide Campaign to Counter Opposition’s Vote Chori Allegations Over SIR
The Bharatiya Janata Party has intensified its political response to the Opposition’s vote theft allegations by launching a nationwide campaign titled Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao. The campaign is aimed at countering criticism of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and presenting the BJP’s position directly to voters.
The initiative includes foot marches, public meetings, press conferences, youth interactions, student discussions and social media outreach. Senior BJP leaders, Union ministers and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states are expected to participate in programmes across different parts of the country.
The campaign comes amid an escalating political dispute between the BJP and the Congress-led INDIA bloc over the Election Commission’s electoral roll revision exercise. Opposition parties have raised concerns about alleged irregularities and the possible deletion of eligible voters’ names. The BJP, meanwhile, has defended the revision process and accused the Opposition of spreading misleading claims.
BJP Plans Nationwide Padyatras and Public Outreach
Under the Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao campaign, the BJP is using public mobilisation as a key part of its response to the Opposition’s allegations. Padyatras are being organised in several states, with senior leaders expected to interact with party workers and members of the public.
The campaign is being conducted in two phases. The first phase runs until November 5, while the second phase is scheduled from November 11 to November 30. The party has also planned programmes at district headquarters, with an emphasis on reaching voters in different regions.
In addition to foot marches, the BJP intends to organise public meetings, press conferences and discussions with prominent citizens. These programmes are designed to explain the party’s position on the Special Intensive Revision and address questions about electoral roll accuracy.
The party is also planning door-to-door outreach, through which its workers will communicate with households and present information about the voter-list revision process.
Amit Shah to Lead Marches in Telangana and Haryana
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is among the senior leaders participating in the campaign. He is scheduled to lead a padyatra in Hyderabad on November 2. The march is planned to begin near the Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram statue opposite Nizam College in Basheerbagh and conclude at Mozamjahi Market.
Shah is also scheduled to participate in a march in Karnal, Haryana, on November 5. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is expected to join the programme.
The participation of senior national leaders is intended to give the campaign greater visibility and strengthen the party’s outreach in states where the SIR issue has become a major political subject.
Nitin Nabin to Lead Marches in Bihar and West Bengal
BJP national president Nitin Nabin is also taking part in the nationwide campaign. On November 2, he is scheduled to lead two marches, one in Bihar and another in West Bengal.
The first padyatra is planned in Bhagalpur, Bihar. It is scheduled to begin at Lajpat Park and conclude at Seva Jyoti Chowk. Nabin is then expected to travel to Kolkata for another march, beginning at College Street and ending at Dharmatala.
The programmes are expected to involve state-level BJP leaders, party workers and supporters. The party has described the marches as part of its effort to challenge what it calls misinformation and disinformation surrounding electoral processes.
The BJP has also planned a series of marches in Uttar Pradesh between November 3 and November 5. Several senior leaders, including Union ministers and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, are expected to lead programmes in different organisational regions of the state.
Youth and Student Outreach Form Part of the Strategy
The BJP’s campaign is not limited to political rallies and marches. The party is also planning to engage students, young professionals and first-time voters through discussions and interactive programmes.
Youth conventions, student debates, essay competitions and meetings with prominent citizens are among the activities included in the outreach plan. The objective is to explain the electoral roll revision process and respond to concerns raised by the Opposition.
Social media is another important part of the campaign. The BJP plans to use digital platforms, party communication networks and outreach material to circulate its arguments about the SIR exercise.
The party has also indicated that it will distribute booklets and other information material explaining its position. Through these activities, it aims to reach people beyond large public gatherings and encourage direct engagement with voters.
Why the BJP Is Responding to the Vote Chori Allegations
The nationwide campaign comes after opposition parties stepped up their criticism of the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The INDIA bloc has alleged that the revision exercise could result in the removal of eligible voters from electoral lists. Opposition leaders have questioned the procedures being followed and demanded accountability from the Election Commission, including Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The issue became more prominent after opposition leaders organised a rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1. Leaders from several INDIA bloc parties participated in the gathering and raised concerns about alleged electoral irregularities.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition representatives criticised the electoral process and called for action over what they described as vote theft. Mamata Banerjee and leaders from other opposition parties also participated in the political mobilisation.
The BJP has rejected the Opposition’s accusations. It argues that the Special Intensive Revision is intended to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls by identifying duplicate, deceased and otherwise ineligible entries. The party has said its campaign will explain the process and challenge what it describes as misleading claims.
What Is the Special Intensive Revision
The Special Intensive Revision is an exercise undertaken by the Election Commission to review and update electoral rolls. Such revisions are intended to ensure that voter lists are accurate and reflect eligible voters.
The process has become politically contentious because changes to electoral rolls can affect whether individuals are able to exercise their voting rights. Opposition parties have raised concerns about transparency, documentation requirements and the possibility of eligible voters being wrongly excluded.
The BJP has maintained that the exercise is necessary to protect the integrity of elections. The competing positions have made the SIR a major subject of political debate, with both sides seeking to influence public opinion.
The Election Commission’s procedures and the handling of objections and claims are central to assessing concerns about the revision. Allegations made by political parties should be distinguished from independently established findings.
Political Significance of the Nationwide Campaign
The BJP’s campaign represents an effort to take the debate over electoral rolls beyond press statements and political speeches. By organising marches, public meetings and local outreach programmes, the party intends to present its position directly to voters.
The involvement of senior leaders across multiple states also indicates the importance the party is placing on the issue. The campaign gives BJP leaders an opportunity to defend the Election Commission’s revision exercise while challenging the Opposition’s allegations.
For the INDIA bloc, the SIR issue has become a platform to question electoral procedures and demand greater accountability. The BJP’s nationwide response shows that the dispute is likely to remain a significant part of the political debate.
As the campaign continues through November, public meetings, padyatras and youth programmes are expected to remain central to the BJP’s strategy. The wider debate will depend on the Election Commission’s handling of the revision process, the evidence presented by political parties and the concerns raised by voters.
Overall, the BJP’s Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao campaign is designed to counter the Opposition’s vote chori allegations through nationwide political mobilisation and public communication. The initiative highlights the growing political contest over the Special Intensive Revision and the credibility of electoral processes in India.
