The one-off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground ended without a single ball being bowled, as all five days were washed out due to persistent rain. The much-anticipated encounter between the two teams was severely impacted by poor weather conditions, rendering the ground unfit for play.
From Day 1, continuous rain prevented any action on the field, and despite efforts by the ground staff, the drainage system at the venue struggled to cope with the heavy downpours. As a result, each day was abandoned by the match officials. The final blow came on Friday, September, when Day 5 was also called off, officially bringing the match to an unfortunate conclusion without a single delivery bowled.
Broadcasters and organizers had already begun packing up and removing advertising boards from the ground before the official announcement, anticipating the inevitable. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) later confirmed, "It is still raining in Greater Noida, and due to frequent rains, the 5th and final day of the Afghanistan vs New Zealand Test has also been called off by the match officials."
The washout left fans and players disappointed, as this rare Test opportunity for Afghanistan, especially against a top-tier team like New Zealand, was marred by unplayable conditions. The match, which could have provided crucial experience and exposure to Afghanistan's growing Test squad, ended without any cricketing action, adding to the frustration of the weather-hit series.
