Manav Suthar has emerged as one of the most promising young spin bowling options in Indian Test cricket after producing a memorable performance against Sri Lanka in Galle.
The 24 year old left arm spinner played a decisive role in India's 165 run victory in the first Test. Suthar finished the match with 10 wickets, taking four wickets in Sri Lanka's first innings before returning with six wickets in the second innings. His second innings figures of six for 55 helped India complete the victory on the fifth day.
The performance came in only Suthar's second Test match. He had already made an impressive beginning to his international career during his Test debut against Afghanistan, where he claimed seven wickets. His performances across his opening two Tests have therefore immediately attracted attention from former players and cricket experts.
Suthar's bowling in Galle was particularly impressive because of his control and ability to vary his deliveries. The praise is significant because India has traditionally maintained a strong pool of quality spin bowlers.
