RCB Set to Include Former KKR and Current Mumbai Coach in Support Staff for IPL 2025

Before his stint with Mumbai, Salvi had a successful tenure as the bowling coach of the Mumbai state team, working alongside Chandrakant Pandit, who now serves as the head coach for KKR.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is preparing for a significant change to its support staff ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, with the addition of Omkar Salvi as their new fast bowling coach. Salvi, who is currently the head coach of Mumbai and has extensive experience in the IPL, will take over the fast-bowling duties for RCB. This announcement comes as part of RCB's ongoing efforts to strengthen their backroom staff and improve their squad for the upcoming season.

Salvi, a former domestic cricketer who played for Railways, has made a name for himself as a highly respected and diligent coach. He has previously worked with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as an assistant bowling coach, under the guidance of Bharat Arun, where he gained significant exposure to the high-pressure environment of the IPL. His tenure with KKR saw him contributing to the development of the franchise's bowlers, which has earned him a reputation as one of the most dedicated and knowledgeable coaches in Indian domestic cricket.

Before his stint with Mumbai, Salvi had a successful tenure as the bowling coach of the Mumbai state team, working alongside Chandrakant Pandit, who now serves as the head coach for KKR. This background gives Salvi a solid understanding of Indian domestic cricket and its players, which he will bring to his new role at RCB. It is worth noting that his coaching philosophy and ability to work with young bowlers will be key in helping RCB strengthen their fast-bowling department, an area where the team has seen some inconsistency in previous seasons.

This addition to RCB’s support staff comes on the heels of Dinesh Karthik’s appointment as the team's mentor and batting coach. Karthik, who retired earlier this year, is set to bring his vast experience and leadership skills to the RCB camp. Interestingly, Karthik and Salvi have worked together before at KKR, where Karthik served as captain and Salvi contributed to the team’s bowling strategies. This existing rapport between the two could play a significant role in creating a cohesive coaching unit for RCB moving forward.

RCB's changes to the coaching staff are part of a larger strategy to build a well-rounded and competitive squad for IPL 2025. With the franchise having failed to secure an IPL title in 17 attempts, RCB is hoping that these adjustments, along with a focus on player recruitment in the IPL Mega Auction 2025, will be the catalyst for a successful campaign. Currently, RCB has retained players like Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal, but the team still has plenty of work to do in terms of assembling the right squad for the season.

As RCB prepares for the upcoming auction, the addition of Omkar Salvi to their support staff will bring valuable experience and insight, particularly in fast bowling. With his expertise, combined with the guidance of Dinesh Karthik and the leadership of head coach Andy Flower, RCB is poised to make the necessary changes that could finally see them lift the IPL trophy after years of near misses.
